1963 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe at Mecum Auction, Sept. 16,2011

I have reserved a spot at the Mecum Auction next Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 for my 63 Acadian Sport Deluxe.  Unfortunately all the TV times were taken so it will run in the morning prior to that evenings TV broadcast.

Everyone seems to love this car but I guess there just isn't anyone that can spend this much money in today's economy.  It probably will take an individual wanting to own it for his/her personal collection as I really can't see anyone spending this much money to purchase it for resale.

I need $27,500 to cover the expenses of the auction and net the $25,000 minimum that would allow me to walk away from a car I have invested over $35,000 into but thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the last 6 yrs or so I have owned it.

I have used this car as a driver from day one and although it makes it very hard to maintain the high level of quality I enjoy, I would not trade one mile driven for anything.  From the 1700 miles on the Power Tour to the 4 months I had it in Florida last winter, I would not have enjoyed these experiences near as much with any less of a car.

My goal is always to own as many of my dream cars as possible, just one or two at a time.  I agreed to sell my 66 Canadian Chevy II wagon with just 40k actual miles last night at the Frankenmuth Auto Fest.  If my Acadian sells nest week, I plan to move on down my list of dream cars and hopefully give something back to Automotive History by buying one of the cars of the 30's that I have always loved but never owned.  IMO when they rolled the fenders into the running boards and gave the bodies some shape (1933 & up), it changed Automotive styling completely.  I call my favorities cars from the Al Capone and Bonnie and Cylde era.  As a kid I watched the gangsters standing on the running boards with there machine guns blazing and though those are the coolest cars ever.  Of course the real styling genius's were building  the ACD cars driven by the rich but I came from blue collar roots and the 33-42 Chevy's will be the cars I preserve for the next generation.  I will not rule out the Pontiac, or Olds, just not a Ford.

If the car sells, I will not leave this forum unless Todd kicks me out so we shall see what happens.

Drive em and enjoy them guys,  Norm

Haaaa, this reminds me of the line in Blazing Saddles... "OK, we'll take the n&#%ers and the ch#%ks, but we won't take the Irish."

You can stay as long as you like. A 30's-era vehicle is on my wish list especially a '36 Buick like this:

I'd also like a Model T roadster some day.

Here are a couple pictures and if you google 1963 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe, my car will be the first 3 or 4 links to come up and I understand one of them even has a video.

I did not create any of these links they have just shown up over the last couple years.

Todd,  having grown up in the home of the Buicks, I have a very special place for some of them in my memories.  My grandfather bought over 30 new Buicks in his life time.  In Flint, they had the only two factory outlet Buick dealerships.  They were called simply, Downtown Buick and Eastside Buick.  They got their inventory directly from the factory which was only across town and they could do things that no independent dealer could do.  Back then the delivery charge on new vehicles was actual cost based on the distance from the factory to the dealer.  How much do you think they charged to deliver across town (not much).  My Aunt and Uncle, he was a CPA in California, used to fly into Flint, buy a new car and drive it back for less than what they could buy the same car in California.

Mecum Auction will be on TV Live this week 6:00pm to 10:00pm eastern, Thurs, Fri, Sat and I think Sun afternoon.  I will wear my yellow Jegs hat with the black brim during TV time.  The Acadian will not run during the live broadcast.

Enjoy the weekend!!

My car ran #1 in line on Friday morning (about 9:30am).  Most of the individual buyers were still having coffee.  There were about five classic dealers bidding and the car went to $21,000, not meeting reserve.

It is now listed on the Mecum site for Jan. auction in Kissimmee, FL.  It is scheduled to run on Thursday noon prior to TV time as Lot #T54.  You can find it on the website by going to Kissimmee auction, Thursday, page 2, lot T-54.

thanks, Norm

P.S.  The above auction was near Chicago, Ill and had sales of 55%.  A couple weeks later they ran a Dallas auction which I decided not to attend and the sales were 77%.  Wish I had run the car that weekend.

Are you trying to sell this yourself? I would think you could get what you need out of the car in a private sale - and cut out the middle man. Though in the right auction you could do even better I suppose and you don't have to deal with the tire-kicking, low-balling whiners... OK maybe I answered my own question.

I don't think I have made any secret of the fact I'm ready to move on to different cars.  The bottom line on the 63 is $25,000 as it is one of a very few cars remaining and needs nothing.

I have had it on eBay, racing junk, collector cars, etc. etc.  Many, many people seem to like the car but no offers at all.  Running it through Mecum was the first time I have had a verifed offer to consider and that was from a classic car dealer that wanted the car for resale.

I'm just to a point where I do not want to own a project.  I want something to drive and enjoy now.  I can't even think about spending the money necessary to buy a quality car without selling this car first.

I lost all my benefits in the GM Bankruptcy so all medical and dental expenses are out of pocket.  That makes a big difference.

Well,

When I was trying to sell my Mustang, (the car I had before the Poncho) I had it listed a couple of places for a VERY reasonable price, but I refused to "give it away". I had it up for about 3 months, before I decided to get creative. I ended up trading for the Pontiac and am very happy with the outcome. As there is a glut of cars on the market here in MB, I recommend this as an option to anyone trying to move a car and move on to a new project. Know what you want and are willing to take in return.

Just my 2 cents...

Nothing wrong with that, I sold it to a dealer at auction.  Real nice guy and really liked the car.

Anyone else in Canada or US could have bought the car to keep or resell.

I was an equal opportunity seller just looking for a cash buyer.
