Added a new car to the stable

I have a 51 pontiac I am working on and a 69 beaumont ragtop and my wife kept on saying to me that she wanted one to call her own. So while I was working up North my wife emails me that she saw an old car for sale, took it for a drive, loved it and it reminded her of her favourite car a 63 impala.  She put a deposit on it to hold it till I got home.  Well it was a beauty. An estate sale the 63 olds dynamic  88 was in heated garage since 1967 and has 16000 original miles.  The interior is show room condition. Made by gm Canada, she has the original bill of sale, oil change documentation.  The only things done since we acquired it was the master cylinder and brakes were redone and the tires are now radials, and 2 lowbeams replaced.  The spare is oringal and still has the blue sealer on the white wall.  The chrome and paint are amazing.  I just heard about these kind of finds. Now my wife owns one. I can't wait till she finds another one

Wow, it's a gem

The 330 didn't come out until 64, meaning your 63 is a...  394! It is probably a high-compression, mild-cammed 2-barrel good for 280 horses and 430 lbs/ft. of torque. Is it an early 4-speed Hydramatic?

Maybe change the transmission fluid, but DON'T FLUSH! You can run synthetic in that engine, but if there is any sludge that is masking a leak, you may find leaks developing for that reason. For startup if it were me I'd run synthetic, or possibly some high zinc oil if you can find it. Besides better protection synthetic will cling to the surface and gradually loosen any sludge (a long drive helps with that and sticky rings).

How's the rad core and heater core? Hoses? Thermostat? Fuel tank? Brake flex lines etc?

I'll bet it purrs...

The 394 purrs.  Thanks for the advice. The gas gauge is not working and the speedo is off, and the radio does not work.  Small things to work on, if I don't have enough with my other 2 cars.  The top rad hose is soft and getting changed this week end as well as the power steering and the generator belt.  I will change the tranny before putting her to bed for the winter.

Cheers

Dave
