427 4-speed Convertible 2+2, 8-Track, Numbers Matching

At least its described that way, and the cowl tag agrees.  You can see the air cleaner emblem in the trunk, and it's the original embossed kind, not the reproduction, at least so far as I can tell.  Also appears to have factory rally caps in the trunk (even I don't have those!)

No, I don't know the current state of this car, it was in the "owner will never sell, going to restore one day" category and I lost contact with the guy, unfortunately.  Sent him a few emblems to help him along but that was in 2005 or so!

Just posting the photos in case they're of interest.

I've seen 427 2+2 convertibles and I've seen 427 4-speed 2+2s, but this is the only convertible 427 4-spd that I've ever seen. Granted its the 335hp and not the 390, but still...

I have a 8 track player just like that. Is it period correct? Nice find by the way.

That's not the factory 8-track, of course... I've seen one but it was in a Bonneville, so I've never seen a factory Canadian 8-track.  Anyone have a photo of an original?  Might be worth its own new thread if you do, post it!

I believe this 427 2+2 has factory 8 track. I should have snapped a photo.  It was in a tight spot which is why I didn't get full shots.

You didn't happen to get a VIN did you Dave? It would sure be worth the expense to get GM docs for this one. If you could post the cowl tag we can put it in our registry.

There's a 70 2+2 rag in Camrose that has factory 8 track, I've got a photo around here somewhere, and a copy of the build sheet  (factory 350 bbl, which is somewhat odd).

There's a 69 2+2 rag in Calgary with factory 8 track, I used his console plate to have a couple made for my cars.

Boy, I've had 3 of those factory 69 8 tracks but never took a picture of it!

As stated, the one pictured is way wrong.

The awkward thing about the 69/70 8 track players in the 2+2's is that you're mounting a Pontiac player on a Chevrolet console.  The plate is unique to that application.   The 68 8 track player hung below the dash, but I think also used the same plate just to top off the console, as the hump on the front part of the console would have hit the player.

On my 4 door hardtop, it was mounted right on the centre hump in the front seat since there was no console. Real handy for the front seat middle passenger's feet!
