Bit of an update


Just finished putting the rear end back in the car.  Suspension is all done and assembled, bushings, springs, shocks, etc, along with the rear disc setup

The only hurdle ive come accross with the rear discs were the studs.  The stockers were too short. Dorman makes studs that are 5/8" longer, thank goodness :)

Heres how it looks today (Should paint the hood one of these days):

Otherwise thats about it for now.  Next on to the fuel system, wiring, brake lines, so very much to do...

So ive made a little more progress, not as much as id like but a person runs out of money quick no

 

02 Fbody manifolds fit nicely, had to modify the passenger flange a little but otherwise it was a snap:

Accessories were a bit of a circus.  Ended up using truck alt bracket with idler section ground off.  Then an idler relocation bracket (Dirty Dingo) was used to retain an idler pulley.  I then went with a water pump from an 08 escalade (6.2L). The different shaped water pump and the relocated idler pulley allows for installing an LS6 corvette intake manifold down the road.

The next problem was the power steering pump pulley.  The truck pulley crashes into the steering box (ugh).  So I swapped that out for a pulley from a 1990 Ford Econoline van.  It just fits, had to grind one of the steering box bolts a little for safe belt clearance, otherwise it worked!  Just need a belt now.  My first attempt at a belt was 103" and was an epic fail, he he I believe a 100" one shoud just make it.

Great work.....there was a Car Craft issue a year ago or so that had the LS swap part numbers for pans manifolds etc  and aftermarket combinations that would fit the various chassis. I can dig it out if anyone is interested....

Ya it can be a real gamble finding parts that all work together... Very easy to waste money and time. That's why i put every single part# I could on my build site, to hopefully help the next guy :) I appreciate the encouragement/feedback all... Thanx ;)

I order all my body supplies from Eastwood. I buy hardly anything in town as its much cheaper to buy online.

LS1Tech has been very helpful for me. There is a ton of knowledge on there. As far as the oil pan goes it was a case of $150 vs $350. In hindsight I probably would have bought the Holley pan, but its darn expensive.

Yeah I called the paint shop from AutoE and Automotive industrial. Cheapest I could get black primer was $400/gallon. Ouff. Considering I can buy a gallon of colour, reducers, activators and clears for under $800 from Walkers in S'toon I have to wonder what the mark up is on the supplies. I get alot of parts and supplies out of the US as well. I go down to Noonan ND about 4 times a year. Evil-Bay and Summit are my usual go to's.
