Gordon's New and Used (Hub caps a speciality)

I drove through Grindrod this afternoon and lo and behold Gordon's New and Used hub cap store was open. Gordon has had some serious health issues over the last year or so and his store has been closed every time I have recently been by.

However, today I lucked out, stopped in and finally had a tour of the premises by Abbie who is Gordon's daughter. She and her husband are in the process of doing an inventory of the stock which they estimate at over 4000 pieces.....it is absolutely unbelievable! I managed to score a set (4) of the Chevrolet simulated mag wheel hub caps for $60.00.

In addition I bought a 1968 Chevrolet Sales Handbook and a 1965 Chevrolet, Chevelle and Chevy II Chassis Shop Manual for $35.00 as well as a  hub cap for my 71 GMC 3/4 ton that cost me $10.00.

Abbie advised me she will be at the store on Mondays and Saturdays. Her Dad was there too but not with the program because of his health. Too bad, he seemed like a real nice elderly gentleman.

During my short tour with Abbie I did notice some Acadian stock and lots of other Pontiac 'goodies'.

I plan on making another trip to see Gordon's stock this coming Monday when I'll be able to spend more time there. Abbie's phone number is 250 540 8259 if anyone wants to have a tour during the week other than Saturday's and Mondays. She lives in Vernon and is more than willing to facilitate anyone during the week.

Happy shopping...Merry Xmas.

Sad to hear of Gordon's poor health,  he would be about 75 I think?

passed through 3 years ago, stopped in and spent about an hour with him , looking over the place.. bought a few items too ! I had been in there 5 years prior to that ,, made the slightly out of the way pass to see the place again.

I asked Gordon about his life, he was a prarie boy,, came out west in the early 50's to work in the saw mills ,, that wasn't for him after a couple years , and he started a repair shop and later the new and used collection.

He would buy hubcaps from the wrecking yards for 100's of miles around ...

very neat fellow , I really enjoyed hearing his story !

Yeah, Gordon would be at least 75....if anyone wants a particular hubcap from his store let me know and I'll have a look on Monday. I'll do my best to find what you need but no promises, the place is presently organised confusion.

I've driven by thousands of times, but never stopped. I'll drop by on a Monday soon.
