Seat Belt questione

I was wondering if you gentlemen would be able to help me out with a question?

I have a 68 Beaumont SD convertible with a white interior and would like to change out the seat belts.  The back has gold seat belts with the Fisher Body logo and the front has Black with the GM logo.  Any ideas as to what would have originally been in it or what would look best?

Any and all responses would be appreciated.

I just took a look at the brochure thread and it's pretty tough to tell from the picture. I'm sure someone who knows will chime in as to what it would have come with. (My understanding is that there was a base and a deluxe version in '66. Not sure about '68 though. One thing for sure, they would not have been gold. I'm guessing black.)

Your car could have come with Deluxe seatbelts. If it did it would show up  on the paperwork from GM. Both the standard and deluxe seatbelts have the GM logo on them.

The standard belts with white interior will be black plastic and look like these.

The deluxe seatbelts are steel and look like these.

The seatbelt latches are different for each style so they can't be connected together.

I have also seen the Deluxe belts in seatbelt color in 71 and up.

Funny, I like the look of the standard belts over the deluxe belts.

Asking out of ignorance but did the 68s come with both front and rear belts as standard? I'm thinking earlier years had fronts only. When did both front and rear belts become the only way you could get it?

front seat belts only were law up to Dec -67.  As of Jan 68 front & rear were required along with headrests

So if the Beaumont that is the subject of this thread is an early production car it may have come with only front belts? Does this explain why the rears are non-matching?

No. It would have come with matching front and rear seatbelts. A lot of rear seatbelts were swapped because they seized up due to lack of use.

Interesting info....thank you...I think we have decided to go with the matching standard belts front and back.

I know that the belts, front and rear, were standard on the '66's.  (Perhaps even earlier?)  One more example of the Beaumonts being ahead of their time.
