Driving in todays' world

Hello, Are there other people out there who get nervous driving your favorite classic car on the roads these days ? Those people are crazy out there. Why is everyone in a hurry ? Especially at 6 in the morning. Geez people, you are ONLY going to work ! I do not know of anyone who likes their job THAT MUCH where they are racing to work. Seriously, anyone else out there feel the same ? Especially at stop lights. You look in the rear view mirror and see some idiot barrelling down on your tail end and you think, Oh Oh, hold on !!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Ronco

Agree, everyone is in a damn rush, for what!! The tailgaters absolutely piss me off!
Slammed on my brakes once, but the idiot did end up hitting me. He was at fault, said he didn't see me braking.

I used to drive fast but I keep it to about 115 - 119 now, that works good for the right hand lanes and gives me time to react. You need to be travelling at 140+ in the left hand lanes on the 401 in Toronto or you get run over, Big Rigs do it too. I don't get in pissing matches with anyone either, you want to cut me off...fine, you want to race me away from that light...fine. I always always signal my moves and move across over a long distance. This allows time to avoid the wack jobs who fly from lane to lane, usually in some low end BMW, Lexus or Accura. Me and my passengers are priority ONE.  99.9 % of drivers don't know what a classic car is so don't expect them to change habits when near one. I drive more cautiously in my DTS to be honest.

That's the diffeence between Toronto and Calgary, all the Millionaires and oil tycoons live in Calgagry, I can't remember how many years ago it was that I saw I Hummer, not sure I recognized one anymore.

Two Hummers on this street, one Hummer at work-belongs to the service manager's service manager. All knobs.

Ah, that's it, no Knobs in Toronto.  biggrin

I'm keeping my eyes peeled now though, going to see how long it takes to see one.

I will tell you a tail of a very nice driver on the 401. I had a duramax with a camper and a trailer doing 20 KM over the posted speed when I saw a long hill in the distance. I put my brinker on like a good driver to move into the fast lane because there were rigs doing low speed on a hill. For the next KM I was ignored by everybody to let me in at highway speeds. Finally a rig behind me in the same lane had enough and turned into the fast lane and cut off that traffic. I saw my chance and went for it. I looked the rear view mirror only to see him pull back into the slow lane? He cut off traffic in the fast lane to let me in. I'm sure he saw my 65 beaumont on my trailer and my BC plates. Pretty cool and I wish I could thank that guy!

Funny,

Here in Winnipeg, everyone has been driving 10-20 under the posted speed limit...now THAT'S a piss off!

When I lived in Port Moody and worked in Vancouver I used to commute in a Honda Civic. I used to race that thing 20-50 km above the speed limit. I wasn't a tailgater but I did drive like I was in formula one on the way to work.

Now in Lethbridge I live 2 km's from work. There's photo radar all over and everybody does the speed limit here. No need for speeding anymore.

If I move to a big city again I could see driving more agressively but dont think i'd get as bad as I used to.

The number one factor in slowing me down was owning three big Cadillacs. When you drive a Caddy you are in no hurry to get anywhere, in fact you try to make the trip last as long as possible because the cars are such a pleasure to drive and enjoy.

I can't stand cabbies who make u turns from the right hand lane. Argh. Then there are the pedestrians and cyclists who expect me to look out for them. There was this time when the cyclist slammed into my open drivers side door. Man, was he pissed off. I couldn't stop laughing.

I don't consider most Cabbies in Toronto part of the human species. Most of them come form counties that have been at war in the Middle East since life began and they drive like it. The best part is none of them know where they are going so you have to guide them turn by turn. The only cab company I use is Maple Leaf and I always ask for a Greek speaking driving, this is the only way you can get someone who has been in the country for 30 or 40 years who speaks english, knows where they are going and has decent enough driving skills.

Costa Rica was a different place to try and drive. I consider it a 1st, 2nd and 3rd world all in one. Horses, bikes, cars, people all sharing different types of roads. I saw 3 people riding on a single person bike while the driver was talking on a cell phone(wow-talent). Night time nobody wore reflective clothes while riding bikes or walking. Cars drive over the line cutting off oncoming traffic, speeding, but nobody cared if they got cut off. Just another day in pardise. I drive red and white plates, so i am a target in Canada.
