I am hoping to get some input on which tail panel is correct for my 66 SD. I have several to choose from with three different paint colour combinations. Most of them are black with white letters, one is black on the top and bottom lines with no colour in the center and has black letters and the third one is black on the top and bottom lines with silvery grey in the middle and has white letters. I don't think any of them have ever been repainted but who knows for sure.
I've been told that the SD's are painted black. This would be consistent with the brochure Carl has posted. Mine is black as well...

Out of curiousity, those tail panels must be stainless, and it makes me wonder why they didn't make all the trim stainless on cars like mine. There is a lot of pot-metal trim on '64 Parisienne CSs that don't weather well with time.

I have a low milage 1966 Custom and it has the bottom of the three pictured. Black upper and lower to match the tailight trim, silver/aluminum paint in between and white letters. I'd bet 9 out of 10 people would never even notice......It is very neat that these details come to light for the person intent on keeping their cars as original as possible.
Interesting. So what's the deal with the second of the three? The brochure doesn't seem to help.
It no one has an answer, I'll crack out the parts book tonight to see if it helps. Which leads to another question... are there part numbers on each of the three?

we had a warrenty take off a few years ago. Had a flaw in the top trim row. Never did find a part # on it? I believe it went to Quebec. Everyone wanted to steal it.
To 66 SD:have you ever seen the "Sport Deluxe" emblems on the quarters to have white paint on the letters?Seems to me my 67 Sd did have white, weather it be correct or not,I have seen lettrs to be white across the back ends though.
