CARBURETOR CONFUSION

The OEM carb for the 239 c.i. 6 cyl. is listed as a Carter WA-1 717S single barrel.

I have a manifold assembly that has a Carter WCD 2-barrel that bolts right on. I am installing the Hi-Compression head on the rebuild and wonder if there is any reason not to use the 2- barrel?

I think your engine is not a 53-54 model year,so  the 53 has another cam, and lighter piston. The intake is a bolt-in on your engine, but the aspiration will not be optimal for the 2 barrel, Ok even the 53-54 is not any good for the aspiration  anyway. Try it but you will not pump out the same from your engine with the wcd like a 53-54 model, and I think you will experience lean mixture.

Hope this help.

Fitz.

Thanks Fitz.

The engine number leads me to believe it's no later than a '51. I put .030" cast iron pistons in so I think I'll stick with the original intake and carb. I used to have a later motor and I guess that 2 Bbl. was from it. In this case 2 is not better than 1!!
