How much torque

How much torque do we need to use to put the heads back in a 283 engine?

Get a service manual or print it off the internet

I though it was outside in. I have a manual for it but a lot of the topics in it tell me to refer to the 1961 manual that I don't have. Thank you for the heads up I'll try and find the sequence on the internet

No,it is the opposite of that, inside to outside in a circular motion. As Dave suggested, it should be easy to find the pattern online somewhere if it's not in the manual. There's not a more common engine in the world!
