1967 Beaumont vin decod

Can anyone help me decod this info from my 1967 Beaumont?

Inside the door the tag reads 736177111577

On the fire wall it looks like the tag reads

style: 73617 1-6-2

Body no: 06 842200

Paint: 8 cc

Trim: 784

15d55d99 1135

That one is painted and kinda hard to read so some of the numbers might not be right??

Beaumont Custom Sport Coupe V8, Provincial White with Gold bucket seats, console. As was mentioned 1135 is probably M35, meaning Powerglide.

8 CC may actual 9 CC, meaning solid Provincial White in Acrylic Enamel.

D99 means the car came with sail panel moldings that were shared with 2-tone  paint cars, but your car was not 2-tone, as evidenced by the CC paint code. To me it is surprising the number of Canadian cars that came with the D99 option.

BTW, welcome to Canadianponcho, Derek thumbsup.gif

Ok here's my quick go at it. Others can fill in the spaces.

door tag is the model 73617 followed by a sequencial number, all of which is your VIN

data plate info
73617 = Beaumont Custom V8 2dr hdtp
1-6-2 = first shift 6th day February
body sequence number
8 cc unfortunately I don't have a 67 paint chips
trim 784 = gold

the other numbers are your options but I don't have a full breakout ( but betting that 1135 is actually M35 = powerglide transmission )

You can get a full report on your cars specs when manufactured by contacting GM vintage vehicle services in Oshawa. There is a fee for this.

Just a couple of questions, see below:

736177111577
7 = Acadian
36 = Beaumont
17 = two door hardtop
7 = 1967
1 = Oshawa, ON
11577 = sequential number, shouldn't this be 6 digits long making the VIN 13 digits?
Did the sequential number start at 100001?

build date
1-6-2
I thought this was shift-month-day?  Does shift-month-day make sense if you compare the sequential portion of the VIN to the model year total production?
http://chevellestuff.net/1967/chevelle/tags/67-os.htm

Body no: 06 842200
should the first two digits be OS for Oshawa, ON?

Option codes
D55 = floor console
D99 = sail panel moldings for two-tone paint
M35 = Powerglide trans

What about the numbers 15 at the beginning?

First of all i would not go by any US chevelle info when dealing with a Oshawa built car

The seqencial #s make sence to me,  this car was built on June 2, 1967,  relatively late production

The # started at 00001 to 10000.  After 10,000 cars were built it started again with a "1" , so this car is showing 11577,  meaning it is car # 11,577 th built that year

This is because canadian car production was only around 15,000 units per year as opossed to US production in the 100,000+ range.

Yes,  it should be an "OS" in the body #,  probably  a typo

All the option codes are correct,  there are no "15" in front on canadian codes

Yes,  being the car was built in June 1967 it would be around 11,000th built given that total 1967 beaumont production was only 15,000 or so.

I think the information in the link is for Canadian built cars.  It shows that Canadian built Chevys started numbering VINs at 100,001 for model year 1967.  Canadian built Buicks also started numbering VINs at 100,001 for model year 1967, even though model year production was only 7,462 in Canada.   For Buick, model year 1967 was the first year this 13 digit VIN scheme was used in Canada due to the auto pact, but this VIN scheme started in 1965 for the US.  I thought all GM divisions, US and Canadian, used this 13 digit VIN format in 1967 due to the auto pact, but Acadian didn't?

You are correct.  there is a 1 missing in there.  should be a row of 4 "1"s not 3.  i read that wrong,  thats alot of "ones" in a row!

The "1135" is actually M35 powerglide

Not sure about the "15" probalbly a typo too.  should could be A51 with the D55
