1961 Strato Chief VIN decoding....

1 = year = 1961
having trouble with the next numbers
a Strato Chief 4 dr should be 7135xxxxx

Post the numbers off the data tag

1 = 1961
7 = Pontiac (Canadian)
1 = Strato Chief, 6 cyl
69 = 4-door sedan
XXXXX = sequence number unique to car starting at 00001

35 = 4-door station wagon (2-seat)

(Ted - I'm guessing you have Bill Watson's book and it is full of errors. It shows 7135 as the Strato Chief 4-door sedan, which is incorrect. Look on page 538 for the correct body style numbers.)
