Oshawa Documentation GM Canada (cost?)

I recall seeing a thread on this recently, but can't seem to find it.

Has anyone done a 1959 Oshawa build recently & at what cost?

I enquired on a 70's vehicle last spring & they wanted some outrageous amount of $$$.

You mean Vintage Vehicle Services? I had it done with them for my 61, cost me about $45.

1963 & older is $39.55 including taxes.   Add $16.95 if you're in a rush and want next day service.

Direct quote from website:

"GM Vehicles 1963 and older

For most Canadian vehicles produced before 1964, the information available is generally limited to production date, quantity produced for Canadian sale, original colour and interior colour, engine number, size, horsepower and Engineering Specifications. No option information is available as it was not retained for individual vehicles. In order for us to prepare the documentation please fill out the following Request for Vehicle Option Information form and fax it to us at the number on the bottom of the form. "

I don't think it is worth anything on a car in this category. With all of the knowledge on here most cars can be decoded very accurately from the data plate and VIN. You get quantity produced so you decide if that is worth 57 bucks.

I see the prices have gone up,, I had done my 68 SD 8 years ago.. I think it was $75 at that time??

most definately worth while..

I would love to do my 64 Custom Sport, but really there is nothing unique about the car other than tilt and the odd carpet color choice...and we all know the production #'s

I will be doing my 66 Beaumont SD rag this week... mostly because of the rarity of these...not much for options on this one..

I disagree-the package is well worth purchasing for any year or model-when we decode a car we use the cowl tag (which could possibly not be for that car. This documentation is based on manufacture's records from the vin-more acurrate and more valuable, more credible

Someone tell phaedrus that.

In the words of George Zappora:

"We do not have, have never had, and will never have OPTION information for GM passenger cars manufactured in Canada prior to 1964. It simply does not exist

The clarity on 55 year old microfilm is often not the best. Neither is the clarity on some of our 55 year old documents that are not originals. The photocopied material we offer has been gleaned from whatever vehicle division we could get to send us information. These are sometimes copies of copies of copies. "

This is all made perfectly clear on the web site. If you are intent on sending $40 then know it's buyer beware.

something as simple as the colour might be a nice thing to be documented through manufacture's records--it is more credible and adds value-$40 is pretty minimal for any kind of documentation-the $125 for seal documents on more popular models is a bargain--we should promote this stuff to kept this service alive and to support our member George

On the $250,000 Judge I was asked to document and assess for a POCI member south of the border the GMVVS documentation was the only documentation missing that I was provided as evidence of the car's authenticity. This was in my opinion a gross oversight on the seller's part. The PHS documents he provided were in my opinion worthless. The high cost of the document was cited as a reason for not having it, quite an odd statement considering he was offering for sale a $250,000 automobile. Obviously on speical cars and rare barn find auto's in the certified documentation class this service is invaluable. My comments clearly did not refer to these type of automobiles or era of manufacture.
