there is 2 words to make it easy .....................frame off!

Lefty here is a pic of the strap in question , note the bend on the right side where you see a carriage bolt

when i put the tank under the car , this bend on the strap should go behind the tank ( where the bottom curves to the rear side of the tank )

when i tried to get it in ,the  head of  my carriage bolt was about 3 inches from the slot under the trunk pan (  the nut  was  at the far end  of the thread )

i have the impression i have the wrong strap , i dont think it should be this hard to getit in ????it seems so short ???

i noticed there was 2 slots in the trunk pan , i put the bent end of the strap in the 2 nd hole like the picture in the G M chassis shop manual

if i put in the 1 st hole ( closer to the rear of the car ) i will gain some loose , but i want to have it where it goes !

well i will just  get   longer bolts   , or  dig  some   out  of  the  bins

straps seemed to pull in when tightened.

Looks great. I get a kick out of how easy a job like that looks. Only someone that's done it knows how much time and effort is involved.

thats was what my new ones (stainless) were like so i just went to Home Depot and got a longer bolt.
worked fine and after i go it tight i cut the carriage bolts shorter and put self locking nuts on them..

I had to do the same thing on my Acadian as well as one other one I worked on. Just needed more thread to get it started, once it tightened down it fit perfect.

here is a clue ....................the top of the car did not need any work !!

ABOUT THOSE SRAPS i noticed there is two slots in the trunk pan ( front of the tank ) , is it possible that the straps could go in the first one ???

i checked in my shop manual and it seems to go in the second one ( closer to the diff ) , i want the strap in the orig position .

.........just last august I put a new stainless tank and straps in my 58.  The strap goes in the slot closer to the diff and the comes out the second slot, kinda acts as a lock sitting that way.  Yeah it seemed short too but once you catch the threads it tightens up OK.

i guess that  confirms..........even  if they  are two  differents  cars  of a different era  , the  lock  idea  for  that  strap  has some sens   BUT  IN YOUR  2 ND   PICTURE  A SEE A HOLE  CLOSER TO THE  DIFF ANS  THE  STRAP   IN IN THE  LOWER ONE   ??????

thanks  Nailhead  !!!!

Did you buy repro mounts for the frame? I see those are big block mounts.
