62 pontiac Hood Hinge problem

Has anyone else experienced troubles with their hood hinges not closing properly at the rear of the hood? Both of my '62 Pontiacs need to be pushed down at the back after hood is closed. Would it be weak springs?

I have never tried but I've also read where guys say they slotted the hole for the hood hinge mounting bolts (hinge to body, not hinge to hood) and that supposedly works too. However, as stated, I've never tried it to see if it actually works.

Yes, I agree you can usually get everything to work great with adjustment or shims.
I've found that I have to adjust the hood in the opposite direction of what looks right at first glance.
It takes a bit of trial and error but it can be done, even if your hinges are worn, the right adjustment will take the slack out of them and they'll work fine.

I've had a few cars with the exact problem you describe and I've always been able to get the hoods to close properly after some adjustment.

Another thing, if your hood springs are a bit weak you can usually get them to work fine by closing up the hooks at the ends.
It's a bit hard to describe but you want the spring to look like this... (_////////_) rather than this... (__////////__) It just shortens the spring by a half inch or so and that will usually be enough to make the difference.

Trying to remember the solution. Pretty sure it was Beaumontguru who gave me the advice. I know it worked perfectly for me. I think it was loosen up your hinges and then lift the hood up as high as you can and prop it and then tighten your hinges there. It just snugged it right down and after a couple minutes work you think why couldn't that have been done before. It was a good feeling after.

Thank you guys for the tips, next chance I get I will give it a shot. Never even thought about shims.
