Since the '68 427 Parisienne thread was closed, I'll repost my question...

Here is a copy/paste from that thread.  Does anybody know this?

I was wondering if anybody has the production breakdown of 427 Pontiacs for '68... I'm curious of how many Parisiennes vs Grande Parisiennes vs 2+2 vs... Strato Chief (?) had 427s.   Thinking that the regular Parisienne would likely have been the less-popular choice for the biggest motor option available at the time (except maybe Laurentian?).

Thanks in advance! smile

I KNOW THERE WAS 30 GRANDE PARISIENNE 2 DOORS BUILT WITH THE L-36.

I THINK IT WOULD BE SAFE TO ASSUME THAT THERE WAS LESS THAN 500 CANADIAN PONTIAC 427 CARS BUILT FOR '68.

PERSONALLY, MY GUESS WOULD BE LESS THAN 200 TOTAL WITH ALL MODELS INCLUDED. BUT WHO KNOWS...THAT'S JUST MY GUESS.

Thanks, I still remember seeing your car on kijiji PEI.  How's it coming these days?

The original seller of the Parisienne in question said 1 of 17.  I wonder if that was just for 2 doors?  Were the documents ever posted for it?

Then the 4-door hardtop Parisienne Carl posted that was 1-of-19.

Any more out there?

Thanks Carl.

Is there a registry for 427 Canadian Pontiacs?  Seems to me there should be... (409s as well)

My 66 Grande Parisienne build sheet says "for the 66 model year both 2 door and 4 door models only 56 were equiped with RPO-L/36" 390HP sorry no new pictures yet plan on putting original 427 motor back together this year, then paint car.

Thats a great number to know!    i've been trying to figure out for quite a while how many Pontiac big block installations there were in 1966.

So far I've got 782 396's in the  Grande Parisienne 2 door model (GM number)

                         56 390 horse 427's generally (GM number)

The rest is still guess work but the 425 horse probably was not more than 25 in total given the price of that option. (approx $500.00)

So how many other 396's were installed in the rest of the models?  I would guess maybe1000-1500. I was told once by George Zapora that there were about 3400 installations of the 325 horse 396 in all of the canadian GM production (Chevy - Pontiac) in 1966 so I'm not out by an order of magnitude.

Out of a total produciton of 88000 or so in 66 (if my memory serves) that would mean an installation rate of plus or minus 2.5%.

No wonder they are hard to find eh?

Wow... they are scarce, aren't they?!  confuse

Not to mention that being Canadian cars they would be more prone to rust than if they had been available in places like California.

Can't be all that many actually left....
