replacement piston rings for '66 389

Hi ....what is the best replacement piston ring set for a 1966 389 out of a Benneville? The motor only has 78k miles on it but hasn't been run in years ....it smokes out of the rocker cover vent a bit so i'm guessing the rings are stuck in one of the pots. I'm going to pull the motor apart and completely clean and re seal it all so it's a no brainer to re ring it at the same time ...thanks j2.jpg

I've always had great luck with Sealed Power rings.

And conversely, will NEVER use a Hastings ring set.

I have a feeling that once you get it apart you'll be doing more than just rings ... one thing will lead to another. wink

I had a 1966 Pontiac 389 rebuilt in the early 90s They installed cast Ohio Pistons and Hasting rings, never had a problem except the static compession was way too high ie 220 psi !!! No wonder it was pinging, I didn't have the car long enough to have any problems with the rings ... What happened to you with the Hasting rings Carl ?

My brother ran a repair shop for about 35 years and never had a good experience with any of the Hastings ring sets he used. Without fail, he had trouble with oil consumption and the TRW and Sealed Power were perfect every time.
