Whining rear differential

Hi guys

My differential makes a light whining. Its not a continuous sound and it varies from no whining to a light/high whining.

Is this normal for a 1960 Pontiac Laurentian?.

I belive the clutch need to be cleaned - when I get the time - but I dont feel any problems with either the gearbox or the differential.

Please comment - thanks

Its probably been whining for years

My  F-Body Camaros  especially 98-2000 whined like crazy

The old Pontiac might like some new fluid

but don't fuss over

I used to have a car, that only whined, when my wife was in it  rofl.gif

An old trick was to add saw dust into the oil, it ran much quieter , but I wouldn't try it .

Add banana peels, I've that heard also ...no

I know a guy that filled his with roto-tiller gear oil, thick as molasses, I don't know what the outcome was ... don't do it!

If it only whines when coasting and it is getting louder with time, that is a sign that the pinion bearing is tired and needs replaced.
