71 Impala For Sale (not mine)

Went to a car show yesterday with the Bel Air and the guy at the entrance showed me his 71 Impala for sale:

He wants $4,000 for it, 350ci , auto, his name is Rick Rawn, 519-334-3365 in Holstein ON, car had one repaint years ago, one spot with bondo (last pic)...I was in a hurry so I didn't stick around for a test drive or more questions or pics...

My 70 is big enough, but the 71's are even bigger - obviously designed before the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo.   The motors started losing power in 71 because of emissions and lowered compression (and the switch from brake to net horsepower).  Big cars!!!

OMG! Almost identical to the first car I ever drove. 71 2-door Bel-Air, same original colour, same steering wheel cover but no a/c. Tempting indeed ... but no place to put it! Although I wouldn't trade my Parisienne for it.

Some of you guys won't be shocked to know that in the late 80's I parted out a virtual twin to this car (to scavenge the 402 out of it)...

Sorry, but I likely would still do the same thing today!

in the early 1990's I went to purchase a set of large finned hubcaps off of a 73 like this for $100 - the guy sold me the whole car for and extra $150 ($250 total) it was in good shape minus the cracking in the vinyl roof, minor wear on the 70,000 mile driver's seat and some very minor rust in the lower quarters - it was 400 small block and ran great - I traded headlights for my 73 corvette and stole the hubcaps but planned on fixing the car - someone I knew bugged for the car so I sold it to him $250 -- he pulled the engine for his 49 ford and scrapped the car - what a shame

Another friend had a 73 4-door hardtop 454 color sanded and polished BC/CC was asking 3900 eventually sold it for $2500 - we later seen it on a scrap pile - someone used the drivetrain --- what a shame

Dad had a '74. I didn't know he was doing it, but in 1986 he sold it for $175 to someone for the drivetrain. It ran perfectly.

One thing about the '71s & some '72s, occasionally they used 350 badges on the fenders, but more often than not they were omitted.

Dashs cracked in those things like crazy. it would be very unusual to find one with an uncracked dashpad today.

Those cars were 80" wide; technically an old law in Pennsylvania would have seen those cars using clearance lights.

I wonder how many million of these were sold, pretty typical car for that era. Even though they were huge I recall one finger steering them and even with the 350 I remember them moving out just fine. There was a 74 in our family dark brown with gold interior, I did like driving that car, wouldn't give it a second look today though.

I wouldn't take the engine out of it if it was a 402, but I would definitely "derby it".
