Chrome protectorant (or is it protectant? heh heh)

So I'm slowly coming along in my freshening up of my '61 (will post some before and after pictures when I'm done). Since today the weather was wet and miserable in my neck of the woods I concentrated on something fairly easy. I cleaned the chrome. I had some small rust spots on my bumpers that I was able to polish out and it came out pretty good. Not a show shine but I can still make this car into a decent 20 footer I think.

Anyways, the question: do you guys know of a way to protect the potmetal pieces as well as my steel bumpers so the rust spots don't come back within a week? LOL I thought of just clearcoating them but I'm concerned that without sanding the clearcoat might not stick very well to the polished chrome. Can anyone suggest any other long lasting method (and please don't say rechrome your bumpers! heh heh)?

Check out this video for Quick-Glo on Jay Leno's website.   I think you're looking for a product like this.
