2 different electrical issues?

My 67 Parisienne has a couple of electrical issues.

BRAKE LIGHTS... There are two lights on each side. When the lights are not on, pressing the brake pedals makes all 4 lights in the back go on like normal. When the parking orheadlights are on, when pressing the break pedals lights up 3 of the 4 lights; the oddball actually shuts off altogether. Common problem you may say as this can often be seen on all kinds of cars. How can I identify the problem?

CONSOLE COURTESY LAMP... The console has a box that when you open it a light goes on provided the headlights / parking lights are not turned on. I find it redundant that the light doesn't go on when the car's lights are on, which is usually at night and when you need that light! In the day I don't need it! Anyone that has the console between the buckets I'd like to confirm that this light should always go on, that there is a problem. If so, any ideas as to where I should look? Visual inspection of the wiring appears like all is in order.

Any ideas? Cheers,

Leo

You've likely checked this, but for my I would bet it's a ground issue with the tail / brake lights at the sockets.  No ideas on the console light tho....

Yes, it's the first thing I checked but I can't find anything wrong.

Re the console light, I had a similar problem with the green/gold 70 2+2 I had.   I really don't remember if it was the console compartment light, or the rear courtesy light.    The problem was that when the headlights were on, +12v was present at both sides of the bulb, henceforth the light didn't illuminate.  I remember there was a cut wire at the fuse block that needed to be put into a different spot on the fuseblock, but that's all I remember.

Interesting. Thanks, I will check that out.

Had a problem with my right front signal/park light this spring. Took some sleuthing and it was a grounding issue but not anything I had ever encountered before. Kept checking for grounding between the housing and the body and everything was fine. Turned out that the light socket, which is pressed into the housing, was no longer grounding to the housing. Cleaned 2 spots and put a touch of solder between the socket and housing. Now its grounded and working fine.
These type of incidences are why we turn grey ( or go bald ) too soon.

I think I found the problem and it's similar to what you describe. It's in the socket. I don't know how to describe it but it seems like there's an indentation different from the other 3 and the wire touches where it probably shouldn't. If finding the problem is the worse thing, then figuring out how to fix it should be easier so I'll work on it another day. This could explain why that light bulb kept burning every couple of months!

Thanks guys for the feedback and sharing of ideas.

You can buy just the fibre plate with the contact points and pig tails that fit inside a normal 1157 socket. Any auto parts store should have it or be able to get it quickly

Rear lights are CASE CLOSED, figured out how to fix it yesterday. The console light is my next target.

Nice weather today, had a few drives with the top down and plan on doing the same tomorrow.

Cheers.
