Winterizing my 62 Acadian Beaumont Wagon, To honor the cars Canadian Heritage

When I was a teen working in a gas station in Windsor, I would occasionally get Americans

with skis on their cars asking where the mountains were......in July.confuse

Don't forget your chains for your tires.aww

I recently winterized the 62 Acadian Wagon prior to leaving for Florida.  I really wanted it to be Canadian correct just in case it was pressed into service before spring.

Back in about 1978 I was in line at the border coming back to Canada. Everyone got out if the car in front of me, came around & got parkas out of the trunk, put them on and got back into the car.

The car had New York plates.

It was July.

Your wagon is classic!  Great pictures.

I do have a set of studded snow tires that came on the last wagon I bought in Canada.

Cool pics!

To complete the effect, you just need snow tires (on the rear only, like we did in the good old days), ditch the Nevada front plate, a little snow on the ground, and a two-four (with stubbies) next to the picnic basket!  Maybe a pair of skates and a hockey stick to cover all bases!  biggrin

Thank you for the complement on my pictures.  I will be posting a thread soon with all the photo's I have taken of this great original one of 626 (1962 Acadian Beaumont Wagon) Canadian Pontiac's.  I just wanted to point out the theme of my display is transportation not recreation.  The items I chose to display on the car are period correct forms of transportation.  One of my fondest memories as a child growing up in snow covered Michigan is when Dad would tie the toboggan behind his 55 Chevy tradesman wagon and pull us slowly around the cabin's snow covered roads.  I distinctly remember driving to the cabin and parking at the end of the access road to pull out our shovels, sled, and boots to get the final 75-100' and start the fire in the cabin.  These cross country skies and snow shoes could be used in a similar manner.

I'm a firm believer that less is more and as we have all witnessed the cars with 15 headless dolls and 10 stuffed animals on display, I strive to add something to every car I own with just a few tasteful modifications or displayed items.

... and very tasteful your display is!thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

I hate all the junk some people decorate their cars with! It's like they get bored with their car looking great, and have to add stuff tigers, crying dolls, blinking lights, etc.

If you add to your equipment, a touque, plus jumper cables that would make you an honorary hoser! That's o.k., wear the title with pride.

I guess a set of vinyl frost sheilds for your windows would be too much, eh?

Maybe a moose whistle...

My post was meant a little tongue-in-cheek about adding stereotype Canadian-isms to your vehicle.  I also agree that less is best, in fact I prefer my cars to be just the car without any add-ons.  Your display looks great, however I'd still ditch the fake Nevada plate as it does tend to clutter up the front of your car and isn't authentic to the Canadian theme.  Thanks for posting, I love looking at pics of beautiful cars such as yours!!

Back in the late seventies I had a 62 Beaumont 4 door sedan. Kind of miss that car. It was so simple. The 2 speed auto just went and went. Finally passed it on to my sister and lost track of it after that. Still had the original paint on it, rubbed down to primer in places.

I need to mention, the Nevada plate was a gift from my grandkids, several years ago and I promised to put it on the first white or red car I bought.  At the time my 63 Acadian SD was orange and they really didn't understand why I did not want it on that car.  I love the fact Michigan doesn't require a front plate, i.e. my new ZL1 will never have a front plate while I own it, but you can display a vanity plate if you want.

I bought my last Diesel Dually in Texas and the entire time I used it to haul cars, I ran my Michigan plate on the rear and an expired Texas plate on the front.  This was never a problem in the U.S. but it always caused questions when crossing into Canada.

I remember my Dad having those plastic shields on his and my Mothers car. They worked at keeping the windows from fogging up back then.
