65-66 Grand Prix (USA) tilt into 66 Grande Parisienne


Wow, this thread is well over 10 years old.

I'm currently converting a US tilt column for a friend's Canadian Pontiac so I'm referring to the notes here to refresh my memory. Has anyone installed a US tilt in a Canadian car since I wrote this way back when?

Carl... I just saw this thread. Some points to consider..

I installed a tilt column in my 66 Biscayne, from one of my "suppliers". Took me a couple of years to find the correct collars. For 1965-66 there is about 30 different (!) ones. Finally got a pair from Arizona. Most of them have the part number cast on the back of them. Might be worth a try running the number thru Ebay to see if there is any out there.

On another point.. I believe the "wood trim" on the dash is really wood veneer on these old cars. To restore it try some "Teak restorer", I used it on my boat. available at Home depot, maybe just try a test spot with a Q tip first, that will make that dash look like new.

This is a 10 year old thread. Tom has been the caretaker of the car I did this on since 2016. The wood on the Canadian car dashes isn't wood at all, unlike the US cars that have actual wood.

Thanks for the info Bruce but as far as the collars etc go, this is totally different than the Chev columns where it fits the dash. I won't require any of the stuff you are mentioning. All it takes is the small trim piece under the dash in the pictures above where I illustrated the different between the Canadian trim vs. the US trim.
