Trunk light help

I want to install a trunk light for my 67 Parisienne Convertible. I got the light and some wiring from an Impala. Not sure if a connector that goes near the hinge contains a mercury tilt switch in it. Does anybody have pictures of what this tilt switch should look like? Also, I was thinking of connecting the wire to the same fuse as the tail lights; is this a good idea?

If it is factory the mercury tilt switch is in the lamp holder. Put power to the light and tilt the light and see if it works. Do not forget to ground. At least that's they way it works with my 69. You would also need a direct 12 volt source or else it will only work with your lights on.

These old mercury switches are notorious for not working properly and running batteries completely dead. Why bother with it is my opinion.

I've been tempted to do so. Apparently I'm not the only one to have the idea. If it doesn't work right while testing I'll probably put the LED idea to use.

For 1970 the Canadian and US cars used different types of trunk lights, and I think your 67 Parisienne is the same as my 70 2+2's.   The trunk light itself is on the trunk lid, near the lock mechanism.   The mercury switch is part of the bulb socket, and the wiring plugs into the body harness near the drivers side trunk hinge.   There should always be power to that connector on the body harness (orange wire if I remember correctly).

Thanks,
