Yeah!! These are the pics I have been looking for...thanks for taking the time to post.... upside down...right-side up...don't matter. I appreciate the help guys!!smilesmilesmile

Is the divot in the trim painted with a flat black??

  Kevin

If you are  referring to the upper groove in the lower rocker trim, the answer is no not painted black. Just a shadow that you see in the picture I think.

Hey Geoff

Thanks for flipping those pictures! How do you do that ? I don't know why the IPad inserted them upside down.

Saved them to my desktop (upside down).  Once saved I opened them up, rotated them, resaved, and then reposted them.  (Not on an iphone/ipad though.)

PS, thanks for taking the pics.  We should probably archive them in the library somewhere as a sticky as the question is asked a lot.

Just got some new repo rocker mouldings for my 66 Custom ( same as the 66SD ones pictured). They are the same as 66 Malibu (not SS). Look and fit great.

Hey Carl...thanks for the lead. Any idea why there would be six pieces. I thought Malibu only had the rocker molding ( 1 pc on each side) ....were wagons different?? Am I missing something obvious??

What I like about this thread is the great looking '66 Beau avatars (with what I think is the nicest agle for a pic of the car). Just saying...

PS  Good luck with the rocker mouldings, I'm curious to see what you find!

PPS  I'm envious of the belt line trim you two have maintained on your SD's.  I may have to spring for some of the reproduction stainless someday...

I Got them from a local restoration place - Bow Tie auto parts.  I think they got them from Gold Leaf Automotive , part no. are M1433A  and M1433B.

They cost me $83.00 each.

Hey Rog....there are some decent pics a bit further up ( the 1st page) of this topic. Yours are just rusting away...you should probably just pull them off and send them to me...Hahaha. I wish!!
Have a good evening.

Coming from a guy that hears alot of complaints about repro product, what I've heard about these pieces are that they look good in the package, but are very thin and are easily "bruised". Aluminum films easily if tweeked and the thinner the piece the easier it is to mar. Was also told by one customer after the first summer of use the fronts of the mouldings were completely dulled out and didn't do any dirt road driving. Just passing on what I've been told by others. Cheers.

. I am looking forward to the set that I have coming from tinman (thanks Dave) for the rockers and I might cut up a set of the cheapie repop pieces and make them work for the rear quarters until I can afford to get a set from DT stainless.

I have more originals that have some kind of damage in one way or another but would be good candidates for experimenting with, and being originals are quite thick aluminum and don't "bruise" easily.  The only difficult alteration is, the rear piece is wider at the front and gets narrow as it heads back.

Have you ever attempted to do this yourself? Do you think it is possible? I thought the cheap stuff might bend a bit easier to the body contour. Snow all gone yet Dave?

Although I do a fair amount of fabbing, I can't say I've tried to fab up a set of those. I feel it could be done but I definately would NOT do it with the repro pieces as they would just bruise and look "oil sheened" when all done. I know because i built a 72 El Camino SS and wanted to put wheel lip mouldings on it and ordered the repros (which are made by the same company as the rocker mouldings). They didn't fit very well and had to bend to fit and of course they "sheened" real bad. I yarded them off and bought 3 sets of G.M. n.o.s. ones from a shop in the States. (I like having spares of everything!). AS for the snow, its should be gone by weeks end, one week of this is more than enough. I, unlike some of you others, just can't stand snow, I freakin' hate it. I moved away from Ontario in '79 just because of snow and I don't know how you guys back east can tolerate it. It'll be beer drinkin' season again by Friday!!
