Painted bumpers were standard for trucks of this era, usually white. Only high rollers got chrome option a shown below:

Ya, the faux-chrome painted bumpers are actually a "custom upgrade" from the low option standard white ones.

I like it because it looks complete/clean and is a 4x4.

the red 4x4 is all correct , the blue one has some grill changes and has 55-56 bumper guards. The pointed centers are 57-59 GMC, the smooth centers are 55-56.

That truck was probably a Whitco conversion. Other than WWII, GM didn't make 4x4s in-house until about 1960. The Whitco conversions were done from 1957 through 59 I believe.  In WWII Chevy did 1½ ton 4x4s & GMC did 2½ 6x6 trucks.

If it is a Canadian-built truck it should have a 235 Chevy six or possibly a 265 V8 (yes, the 265 was still used in 57). U.S. trucks would use a 248 GMC or 347 Pontiac V8 that year.

The tailgate fits but the original 57 style used different GMC lettering with little tails off the end of the "M" that went underneath the "G" & "C".

I like it a lot!

9300 is canadian. 9 mean gmc, would have been a 1300 if a chev. the corresponding american model is a 100. my bumper was chrome originally but had been involved in an accident and they painted it white when they repaired it. the bumper on my blue 55 is correct and also take notice of the filler panel above the lower bumper is louvered. canadian only. very nice truck the red one. i checked over the blue 57 at ancaster this weekend past. i know napco did the 4x4 conversions in the states didn't know about whitco. all canadian gmcs went down the chev line just like the canadian pontiacs and acadians. mine is also number 9

reason fat fingers

my american truck ID book shows the 56 4x4 GMC with either the 6 cyl 269.5, or the V8 316.6 . In 55 there was the 248 (6) and 287.2 (V8). 1957 had the 347 V8. 1958 and 59 had 336.1 V8's and the 269.5 (6). In 1960 they dropped the V8 and had a V6 304.7 cube.

canadian parts cat for 1957 list 235 and 283 up to 1 1/2 ton, then 261 was an option for 2 ton and over. had a bitch of a time trying to buy parts for mine in the 80's because there wasn't that many gmc out there. every time i went to the states (i'm ex navy) they got a stunned look when i told them the model number and it had a chev drivetrain. usually it worked best if i just told them it was a chev. should see the looks i get when i take it down to syracuse and pop the hood.

parts book shows a 322 v8 for the 2 1/2 ton in 56 2nd series and 57. never heard of one.

I said Whitco but you must excuse my brain fart. I meant Napco doh   Whitco made softtops for Jeeps...

The 322 mentioned earlier that went into the 2½ trucks was actually a Buick Nailvalve V8.

The 248 GMC six went to 270 later as stated. The Pontiac V8s were upping displacement every year for the first few years, first 287, then 317, then 347. By the time it went to 370 (the 389 predecessor) it was too hard on the base 3-speed transmissions and was larger than they wanted so a 336 Pontiac was developed for use in GMC trucks. Later that 336 was passed off as a 326 in the early Tempest until GM brass found out and it had to become an actual 326.

I'm not even going to try to explain the earlier Canadian Chevrolet & Maple Leaf truck engines in the 40s other than to say where the 235 Chevy was used in the U.S. the 248 GMC was used in place of it on Canadian trucks. 216 Chevies were used on truck 1-ton and below. Bla bla bla...

People who sell like this play games when you inquire......"make me an offer" or "what do you think it's worth?"....games people play,

Or they are too embarrassed to tell you what they want,or they don't have an appraised value on paper.

The few times playing "guess the right price" I find it's best to ignore those ads.

If they price it  (in my opinion)  they will get more real buyers looking    Its a great truck   If its 15g or 20g or 25g   it will get more calls with a price
