Am I missing something? (66 Canso license plate bracket)

Put the license plate on the front of the car and had to bend the top of the plate down to clear the hood release? Is there supposed to be a bracket that holds the plate, my plate boltes dirrectly to the bumper and hits hood release.

Foundd this pic on the net. plate is dropped down, so it looks like there must be some sort of bracket?

I can't remember exactly how the lever sat but my 66 and 67 Nova SS and my 66 Canso never had any brackets. Plate was bolted directly to the bumper. I haven't had a 66/67 for over 40 years.

My guess is the plate should be bolted to a set of holes that are hidden behind the upper end of the plate, and not bolted to the holes being used.

How wide is the BC Plate ? The Ontario Plates are about 6 1/8" wide and clear the Hood Release with no problem. There is no bracket.

The bumper styles are the same for the front but if you are going to use a Nova bumper on an Acadian there is a small opening in the license plate area where the hood rod comes through and it won't work.
