Where do people come up with these ridiculous amounts for their cars. Nuts.

Model choices were limited to hardtop coupe or convertible.

In 1959, DeSoto produced only 97 examples of their Adventurer in a convertible body style.

Under the bonnet lurked a 383 cubic-inch V-8 engine with four-barrel carburetors responsible for producing 350 horsepower.

The DeSoto Adventurer was a limited edition (590 hardtops) high performance model. Gold trim, emblems, truck strips, dual antennas,

mirrors and wheel covers were all standard on this model.

In 1959, it was given a moderate restyling and given a generous amount of Chrysler-shared sheet metal.

It was available in only two colors, white or black (with contrasting gold-anodized wheel covers and aluminum side sweeps).

Add-on air conditioning system and swivel bucket seats were available.

There was a Torque-Flite automatic transmission with push button controls. Selling for exactly $1000 less than the Chrysler 300E Convertible,

the Adventurer Convertible sold for $4,749 in 1959.

That's the going rate for these cars (and pretty much all convertibles well restored from Mopars "Forward Look" era (1957-61). Oh, and if you insult these cars you insult me.

It's a bargain compared to the Hemi Cuda ragtop, and probably gets just as many thumbs up. I'm a big fan of the Forward Look cars too!

An interesting thing about the early, 1959-1960, 383 Mopar engines, is there were two types, the B block was used in Dodges/DeSotos, and the RB (Raised B) was used in Chryslers. Although both were 383 Cu.In, , the bore and stroke were different. All 383's were B blocks after 1960 as were 400's and the earlier 350 and 361's.  All 413, 426 and 440 were all RB's.

The Desoto was named after Hernandez Desoto, the Spanish explorer who discovered the Mississippi River.

Thanks
Randy

Did you see the green bungy cord holding the battery. Great colour combination, should it have wide whitewalls to be correct Todd?

It doesn't have to have wide whites.

My all time favorite instrument cluster is from the 1960-61 Chryslers. Nicknamed "The Astradome" it featured electroluminescent needles.

The first time I saw one I was about 12 years old. It blew my mind! The Forward Look cars had a lot of unique features for the day including pushbutton transmissions, swivel seats:

and lets not forget this sweet 413 used in the 1960 300

....maybe rabitt64 can confirm, but the Desoto might of been Arnie Holmes's car here in Prince Albert. I know many years ago Arnie took me into a room where it was stashed full of his baby T-Birds and a rare black ford 57 convert with options and a special engine, but in the corner was this desoto he said was loaded and had twin 4bbls. All dusty and couldn't walk around in there to get up close, but I bet that is the same car ????
Yeah Chrysler built some neat looking stuff, that 413 cross ram intake is just awesome looking. And the 60-61 dash was gorgeous. My uncle had a new 61 windsor, and at night the thing lit up beautifull, it was like a spaceship I thought. Wonder why I never did a custom job using that dash, hmmmm .

IF I EVER WIN THE LOTTOMAX, I WILL HAVE A BUILDING FULL OF THESE GREAT LATE '50'S MOPARS. FIRST ON MY LIST WOULD BE THAT SINISTER LOOKING BLACK BEASTY TODD HAD. MY LATE GRANDFATHER WAS A CHRYSLER GUY. BEING BORN IN '72, I NEVER GOT TO EXPERIENCE ANY OF THE OLDER ONES HE HAD. MID 70'S BOATS ARE WHAT I REMEMBER HIM DRIVING MOST, THEY LEFT A LITTLE SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED hmm COMPARED TO THE EARLIER ONES. LAST ONE HE HAD WAS AN EARLY '80'S NEW YORKER, BEFORE THEY DOWN-SIZED TO A K-CAR. WHEN THEY GOT SMALL HE SWITCHED TO CADILLACS.

I once heard/read that GM spies got wind of this car 's styling and had to make radical styling changes and bring the 59 Cadillac to market in record time so as not to be outdone by Chrysler.

Mike, I was offered the 59 D500 back fully restored...for $80k. Owner put 100k into the resto and then found a convertible. I loved that car but didn't have the resources to restore it properly.

Ray, apparently the story goes the GM guys sneaked over to the Plymouth proving grounds and got a glimpse of the 57 Plymouth. Plymouth had a great slogan for '57: "Suddenly it's 1960!".
