Looks can be deceiving, I dusted off a 440 Roadrunner with my pick up truck 454.

We all know the 454 in the 73 is a GM prototype engine     developed in GMC truck division   probably pushing 500HP

Plymouth should be 6 BARREL, not SIX PACK, that was a Dodge name.

Thanks

Really?  What are you turning in the quarter mile, Ray?

I imagine your Lemans pulls really hard, but don't underestimate a well tuned 440+6.

Sorry if I've broken any rules by talking Mopar here... biggrin

I'VE HEARD MANY TIMES THAT IN STREET TRIM, A 440-6 WILL STOMP A HEMI. OBVIOUSLY THOUGH A HEMI WILL HAVE GREATER POTENTIAL IN RACE TRIM.

Roadrunner driver claims misaligned clutch  was the issue, but freely admits to getting taken.

LeMans has 2.73 rear end so 1/4 mile not its forte. Challenge was at highway speed with RR. LeMans does 50 to 80 in under 3 seconds when kicked down then it starts pulling like a freight train.

Yes, its like the RCMP 454 Strato Chiefs, she's got long legs, much longer than I have nerve. With 4.11's it was foolish of the RR driver to try me at that speed.

That is a reasonably true statement, but you have to compare apples to apples. Say both cars are equipped the same, ie same transmission,TracPac diff with same gearing etc. A Street Hemi Vs A12 type 440 6bbl will run neck to neck out of the gate, usually the Hemi will pull ahead before the end of a 1/4 mile.

But once you have the Hemi prepped and SuperTuned they will beat the 440. Back in the day I had a 70 Cobra Torino that was a 429 SuperCobraJet Factory DragPak car that I did run against a 67 Hemi GTX. Beat him 3 outta3 runs. Frankly his car wasn't tuned properly, but he started closing on me and I only got him by a fender length.

Another guy I knew had a 69 RoadToad with a nasty 440/727 auto that could beat me hands down. His car was worked over and Dyno tuned in Kitchener. It was scary fast and handled like, well most of the B body cars of the time, that is not too well other than in a straight line. One thing is that most Hemis didn't last and had a very short warranty. Most were replaced with 440's when the warranty ran out.
