What is the rarest 1962 full size Canadian Pontiac

A co-worker is a restorer in his spare time.

My friend does all metal repair work and fabrication.

We are working 7 days a week right now so he's not taking on many projects

He is about to start work on what he is told is a very rare 62 Oshawa built (of course) Parisienne ?

He is thinking it maybe a 409.

It is a hard top and owned by an elderly gentleman who has had it a very long time.

So, until I get more information,

What do you think the rarest 62 Pontiac, full size, hard top is ?

Thanks

I'd have to think that a 2 dr. hardtop Laurentian is the rarest hardtop. Stop thinking 409 because it wasn't offered in 1962. A 327 Laurentian 2 dr. hardtop would be a rare one.

Agreed, I would bet on a figure of under 1000 62 Laurentian hardtops. I just scanned the registry and only spotted one.

Ah,yes......the question was which is the rarest full size 2 door hardtop?

I was thinking rarest (lowest production number) full size Canadian Pontiac.... I must pay attentiondisbelief to the question.

I should have posted this when I ran across it a few months ago, for sale in Oregon for $3000.   .........http://www.fabulous50sclassics.com/1962-pontiac-laurentian--c-200.htm

Interesting ad, I guess the US seller would have no way to understand that dropping in a 389 would be no small feat, of course we know a 348 or 409 would be a lot easier and what the heck a warmed up 327 would be just the ticket.

I would assume a convertible would be the rarest model.

When I had my convertible, I saw quite a few around, so dont think they were that rare. My parts car was a Laurentian hardtop...6cyl

There have been a few posted from kijiji on here over the past few years:

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t38462204/nice-62-laurentian-2-dr-ht-sask-kijiji/

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t49891173/62-laurentian-2-dr-ht-on-ab-kijiji/

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t55464775/62-laurentian-2-dr-ht-kijiji-sask-3000/

They seem to come up often enough that I never thought they were all that rare.

Do you mean rarest when first built and sold, or rarest now?
Lots of rags around now because those are the ones people liked to preserve, I suppose.

Every Parisienne two door was a Hardtop. (ok convertibles too)

Laurentian was available in the most body styles both posts and hardtops two and four door.

The question is: which is the rarest full-size hardtop ?

Only two models came in hardtop so it is either Laurentian or Parisienne. I'm sticking with Laurentian.

I dunno. Canadian's are frugal. I bet more folks went with Laurentian. Since they were basic transportation not many would have survived.

That was very true on the East Coast as I remember. It was very rare to see a V8 emblem also.  Most were base model cars, 261 liner runnin the show in Nova Scotia!

Yeah Carl. It was the same as the coast. Splitting my youth between Woodstock Ontario and Halifax County N.S. There was a huge difference in the trim level of ALL cars, but the Pontiacs  were always trimmed out  at the S-W Ontario dealers. Down east it was brown and green 4 door Strat's and Laurentians  filling the rank and file.

Hard tops and convert's were special.

Then it was even more of a mind bend when we went over to Detroit to visit back in the mid 60's. I still don't know what left a bigger impression. The amazing beauty and totally decked out cars that were just traffic in downtown Detroit or the gas stations that sold Schlitz beer on tap. I remember men sluggin back a cold one while filling up over there.

That's my line of thinking as well.  Would often see the cheaper cars with no options.  Heck, I remember even in the mid '70s that it would be unusual to see a car with air conditioning.

Are there no production numbers for '62s available?

What a sweet 62 that is and what a shame it is in that U.S. state. Watch and listen to the video, it will make you want to scream. This guy on the video just makes my skin crawl. It would be sweet if a Canadian rescued that car from there but instead it will be crapped on.
