1980 Malibu from Penticton to battleford sask

Bought a Malibu in Penticton and flew to kelowna with the girlfriend to drive it home. Purchased it from Darryl (1964canso) and he was great. Left saskatoon and it was +2 in mid September. Landed and it was +25 lol. We brought back packs and hitch hiked to Penticton and drove to osoyoos. It was so warm, it was fruit stand season and the peaches cost $10 for 25lb. so good. Anyhow spent the night in osoyoos and in the big hills the next days the tranny started to slip going into 2nd. I bought a bottle of Lucas trans stop slip and squeezed the ketchup like substance into the filler tube with a worried look on my face. We spent the night in nelson because of a 12 inch snow fall in Calgary. the roads cleared up and we made it home. The engine ran very well after we set the timing with my girlfriend in the driver seat doing a brake stand with me under the hood in a esso parking lot with a group of worried seniors looking on. Haha. We made it home and the trip was a blast. The little 3.8 was a small stove for kootenay pass but blade good mileage. The car is as good As it shows in pictures.

Nice Malibu. my favotite is the 81. I like the simple clean grille. These are good cars except for the power steering box wears out. If the box has the c clip on top start looking for one that has the 4 bolts on top.

We were in Pentiction in August for a visit with one of my brothers and it is a very impressive place to live. Great weather, clean and an abundance of activities. I hope to some day within the next 3 years to move there. The only negative side is the cost of everything is higher than here in Northern Ontario except for real estate taxes. My brother has a town house with an assessment of $410,000 and his property taxes are $2080  a year. My assessement in Timminis is $400,000 and my taxes for 2014 were $7200.

Glad you had a safe trip and I too believe in the Lucas products for temporary fixes.

Osoyoos is the only desert we have in Canada and has the country's warmest lake. Will probably look for real estate there as it is a lot cheaper than Penticton.

Enjoy that rust free Malibu. We walked alot of lane ways in Penticton and I was amazed at all the rust free cars in back yards as them were  very plentiful.

Well Al I don't think you would be disappointed. Find a few friends and you would be set. Nicest thing down there is the pace of life too, no big city rat race. Extra couple months of driving these old cars is a bonus too. Nice to have freshwater lakes around that don't freeze up. I loved Alberta but it has been over forty years since I made the move. I don't mind cutting grasss. My taxes are a bit over half of my moms in Alberta and the assessment is more than twice as much. Must be the snow removal. Sorry about the derail.

You sure took the long way home if you went through Nelson.
