62’ Pontiac Strato Chief Derby or Restore

Hello, I am new to the board and would like an opinion. I have recently bought an old 62 Pontiac Strato Chief. I purchased this car for a demolition derby; but now that I have it home I see it is a one owner car with original paint and drive train. I have other Pontiacs (68 Conv.  Firebird) and wish it was original like this Strato Chief. So my dilemma is to sell the car to someone who would like to restore it or strip her down and destroy it. If I demo the car would anyone be interested in the parts and chrome etc. I would be parting out everything, engine with drive train, all original glass, and complete interior.

Thoughts?

Well I am sure the answers will come pretty quick from this forum and that is to pass it on for someone to restore it. You don't see many wagons in that year and I'm guessing if you bought it to derby you don't have big dollars in it. Looks pretty solid besides from the pictures. By the way welcome to the forum.

I'm sure someone on this site would gladly pic it up or know someone that would. Good tough derby or total destuction car 76 Impala sb 400 or fast tough car 76 laguna rubber nose, but I guess those are hard to find nowadays. Don't think a 62 Strato Chief would last to long out there no Welcome to CP by the way.

Sell or part out, IMHO. Would be a huge waste as a derby car. With that X-frame, it wouldn't last very long after getting t-boned. Besides there are lots of '62 owners on here always sniffing around for parts. There's money to be made and a car to be saved.

This car would be a crime to build as a derby car. Please sell this car to someone who will restore it and let it live on. and this is coming from someone who believes that it is your car, do what you want with it.

Wow, that's scary to think of derbying that car, agreed. Too bad, I just sold a running LT1 Roadmaster wagon last week for $500. I sure could have made you a trade.

A $500 Lt-1 wagon would be the business in a derby!  That wood paneling would ward off all attacks.

I always use LTD Ford for derby cars. This wagon needs a good home. Just saying. Welcome to the site from Barrie Ontario.

There'd be lots of splinters! Everyone would have slivers!

Definitely save the wagon. Don't even part it out. It has to be a keeper.

assuming it still has it's orig engine.......the V8 emblem on front fender........and the even digit following the 7 in the vin,

odd digit would mean 6 cyl

Excellent way to market a car for sale, my kudos to you for this novel way to get the attention of potential buyers. That car is of course no candidate for a Derby and you know it Bob Gyuricsk.

WOW I never thought that I would get so many replies so quickly; and thank you for the warm welcome to the group. Some really great comments and advice, some still have me smiling. Just to be clear this car was purchased for total destruction at the 2015 Bash'n at the Beach Derby in Slave Lake Alberta. But my conscience is getting to me, I love old Pontiacs and Love old Wagons, I am currently restoring a 63' Chevy Nova Wagon. So please don't be too hard on me if she ends up on the beach. I would restore her myself if I had the time a space, but I don't at the moment, and have the Nova project on the go. I see this as an opportunity to share what may be some very hard to locate parts with fellow enthusiasts; and am not looking to make money; I would love to see someone find that rare part they need to finish their ride, or some other noble outcome.

Slave Lake Alberta, you say? The second oldest boy just drove back to Slave Lake from Vancouver on Sunday. Took him fourteen hours. He works and lives up there. Small world.
I personally hate to see any fifty year old car destroyed, but hey, I just took apart a two door hardtop 62 Parisienne that might have been a runner. Didn't even try to start it, and now the motor and tranny are buried in my garage......so I certainly can't talk !!
From what I can see right now, though, there are way too many parts around for the Canadian cars that need them. If you part out the car, you'll possibly sell almost nothing. That's my experience with Canadian Pontiacs, and others that I hang with. I've had a lot of them, and short of divine intervention, most of the stuff gets scrapped.
I say "save the car" and find a better one for the demo derby, maybe an old T-Bird or something :) Lots of those old sixties Thunderbirds around, and they just aren't selling like they used to.
Wish I had those V8 emblems off your wagon. I sold my last set for $10 each plus shipping. I knew I'd never need them, dohhhh.....
