Reverb option availability...?

Curious to know is anybody has documented a 64 (or earlier) Canadian Pontiac with a factory installed radio reverb option?

I know it was available in the US full size cars, but don't recall seeing anything in the Canadian car specs about it.

Around 1972 I had a 64 Impala with reverb.
I think it might have been a factory setup, but I'm not sure.
It was a fairly big unit and it was mounted under the back window deck.

We had a discussion about reverbs and codes (U84) for them here a while back......http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t58601730/does-anyone-know-the-option-code-for-a-reverb/

OK,thanks....that previous post sheds alot of light on the story....

Time to dig out my Canadian Pontiac series 7000 catalog and look for group 9.650.

That should tell the whole story.

So the reverb was NOT available with AM/FM radio?

It was by 65 I think because I had a classmate in highschool with a 65 Parisienne 300hp327. Black, black interior, AM-FM reverb.

Definitely not with Am/Fm stereo....reverbs can't work with a split sound radio like those with Stereo.

There was a member with a 64 convertible that claims came with factory reverb . The wiring was there but was missing.  I also had a 64 custom sport that had reverb.

True.

First year for stereo in Pontiac is 67. I'm not sure if other lines had it earlier.

And that might explain why reverbs are so rare in Pontiac after 66.

I have reverb in my car - I can have a closer look at documents but I cant see anyone adding only the wiring for the unit in the car ( i found the wiring harnes while working on my top and the switch under the dash cover) and hiding the ends and not installing the unit. All the holes were there for the unit. I located one and put it in and it worked like a champ. I have since added an am/fm factory unit and yes when on fm band i have to switch over to front or rear speaker. I have an ipod adapter under my dash i put in and as long as i play mono songs on my mp3 player it plays fine through the fm band still.

I have a 1964 GM radio service manual # psd 53-102 Oshawa, ont.
On page 63 it says reverberation amplifiers for 1964 Pontiac, Acadian 8000, Buick and Oldsmobile cars.
I am sure though that I had seem them in Chevy also. the only difference was the switch for chevy was ON or OFF
were pontiacs was front reverb rear.

How does REVERB work, can someone explain that. Is the sound really that much better than non REVERB. Does anyone know who invented it and what cars first used it. Thanks for any information. Cheers. George.

With the reverb box located with the back speaker (made up of spring like coils) it slows the sound down slightly in the rear speaker

giving the sound in the car a concert hall (echo) effect.

Back in the day it was great to play the AM radio and get this effect out of your radio.Stereo doesn't work with reverb because stereo

is split with left and right channels, reverb just makes it sound like a mess.
