Three 1967 Grande Parisienne Sport Coupes (396 and AC cars!)

For a variety of reasons not the least is that my wife says she is sick of looking at them (women are so weird) I think these three cars are surplus to my plans so I'm offering them up to you guys as I think this crowd will know how tough these are to find.

Its funny how I got them as I was looking for 66 Grande Parisiennes and kept finding the rarer 67's.

What they are, are three (count em) three 1967 Grande Parisienne sport coupes with the sexy roofline they had for 66 and 67. One is a solid frame and bodied original 396 car that should be the keeper and two in lesser condition that will be great donors or....

The keeper car was acquired by me last year after sitting in a dry yard in southern Alberta.  It has minimal rust (-no Vinyl top either) and a fairly straight body except for a shallow crease in the passenger rear (probably done during the storage). Its a rare beast with shaded glass, white buckets and console, Turbo Hydro 400, 12 bolt and (the kicker) a non-seized (probably runs but haven't fired it up) 396 original to the car. From what I can figure, some guy brought this car in for a paint job about 20 years ago and never picked it up as it was sitting in the back of a body shop yard. Production numbers from this site shows there were only 2721 2 door hardtop 67 GP's built, of which only 289 had the 396 auto combination so this is seriously rare and deserves not to be parted out. (Would have even fewer with the 3 speed turbohydro)

I can also vouch from experience that a 396 big Pontiac is such a great highway car they should still be making em! It even has those cable engine mount tiedowns they added due to the big GM engine mount recall.

One of the other cars I also acquired from southern Alberta but it sat on grass and the mice got to it so it has rust issues and the interior is kind of icky. Also white buckets and console, it is a 327 TH 400 car with a 12 bolt, speed warning speedo and power antenna.

The last car I picked up in Rocky Mountain House as a runner. It is a rare factory AC Grande Parisienne (which has to be pretty darn rare in itself as the price for the AC option in 66 was about the same as for the 425 horse 427 option which was $459.00. I don't have the price list for 67 but I can't see why it would have gotten much cheaper than the 66 price.) It also had shaded glass so the interior stayed really good and I have taken the headliner for my 66 and the strato bench went to my brother. However it is also a TH400 Column shift car that has a running later 350 in it.  It does drive. Also has 4 original 67 GP wheel covers in great shape.

I am still going to harvest the shaded glass out of the AC car and the buckets and console and  327 TH400 out of the mousy car to keep for spares but the 3 cars will still make one great project combo with tons of good parts.

If done up you would end up with a sweet driving, very rare 396 AC shaded glass GP  (you know, with those sexy hidden headlights) with buckets, speed warning dash and power antenna.  It also would have the usual options like rear defroster, remote mirror, power steering and brakes as well as keys for the ignition and locks (which will make things a lot easier)

I think it would be a pretty much unique car in this country.

Also note they will go only as a package and two of the cars have seized drums so will not be towable unless you can break them loose.  They are located in Lac La Biche Alberta.

I'm asking $6000 for the three.

Interesting decision there Ken. You just must have them parked too close to the house if she is getting tired of looking at them. You are right though that someone would have a real special car there and lots of it would just be time.

I don't think whoever buys them would have to do much parts scrounging but quite a few hours would have to go into the project for sure.

It would be really nice to see the 396 car brought back.

Interesting how someone appears to have cut open the rad support. After having worked on the headlamp mechanism on mine from the bottom, I'm assuming they did it to gain access from above?

Now, if the speed minder and power antenna were to ever fall out of the silver mouse car.... no

Thanks for posting the BB shot!

I'm not sure why they did that but two of the three cars have had that done.  You would know better than me as a guy who has worked with the headlight setup  All I know is that for two of the three cars I actually had to take off the lower valence to lube up the area around the hoodlatch just to get the stupid things open after I got them.  They tend to rust closed.  When I got the  396 car all I could see from the part of the hood I could pry up a bit was that it was a big block so I had my finger crossed that it was a 427.  Oh well... a 396 is still pretty cool.

For you, if you want a big block car I'd actually do a trade, heh heh. I've always loved that Rusky car

Way back in 1979 I was driving a rusted junk '67 Parisienne 2+2 Convert and I stumbled across a '67 Grand Parisienne that had just been shipped from France. I chatted with the owner, took a number of pix, and I saw it from time to time driving in the salty Montreal winter. No idea where it ended up after that winter.

It was a 396-325, dark green w black bench, it may have had A/C, I'm pretty sure it had power window, it was very well equipped as I recall. Also yellow headlamps, and headrests I think, on the bucket backed bench seat w armrest. I have the pix buried in my cellar, but it's too emotional to search thru them, too many long lost cars and dead friends etc...

I wonder if the car survived??? Pictured is my 2+2, and my friends, his got a 409 TH400, mine 283 w 3-2"s TH350

Each time I log in I seem to be drawn back to look and read, look and read. HELLO ... Factory BB, A/C 2door hard top. What else could you want? Here in Oz we had nothing like these rare option. Long open roads, A/C for summer, perfect. I'll write to Santa and see if he can put them all in a box under my tree for Christmas!( snow and all )

As much as I'd like to stuff all these in a shipping container to ya this project would still need a whole bunch of parts to get it done. (You know like re doing the upholstery, body and paint etc.

With your location you'd probably be better off finding a finished driving car(if you can in fact find one for sale) and only get one down to you, but I really appreciate that I've at least given you something to fantasize about.

As for driving a big Pontiac with a 396 on the highway I can vouch for the fact the since I've got my 66 Grande going I've put about 6000 miles on it (mostly highway) both alone and pulling a trailer and it just makes you smile.  It'll cruise at 2300 rpm at 120 klicks all day at 20-21 Mpg without the trailer and at about 14-15 mpg with the old Airstream that I pull.

The only drivetrain modification I made was to swap out the Powerglide for a slightly beefed TH700R4.  With stock height but wider than stock radials and a 3:31 open rear gear it seems to just a perfect balance between acceleration and cruise power.

I do know that if I want to slip it up to about 100 mph  to pass real quickly it sure doesn't take long.

Now I just have to get the AC working and sort out my rough idle and she will be perfect.

Lately I have realized that I will never build these babies and so I'm being this ad back to life.  I will drop the price to (Count it!) $6000.00 for (count em!) three whole cars.

I will be putting an ad on Kijiji in the near future but I thought you guys should have a crack at them first.

Sure is a lovely set of GPs!

If I had the land, the time, a shop, and I suppose the money I'd be all over these!  What is nicer than a big block '67 Grande Parisienne?

Sigh... (I've been doing that a lot lately biggrin)
