Barry, the first time I remember meeting you, you were driving the Caddy - you came to my parents place for my brother - I remember thinking the license plate was somehow personalized because you seemed to be so 'happy' and to this day - big smile and happy

X2! A Canadian-built car as well. I have never seen a solid Shadow Grey 55 before, it has always been in the 2-tone Coral / Shadow Grey (which is a dynamite combo!). It appears the interior has the grey / coral tones in it already.

There's an owner of a dealership in Edmonton who has a little Austin rag that has been modified. I'll see if I can find a pic... it's pretty cool. (I also have a pic of my cousin in an Austin covertible pedal car at the Austin dealership.)

If you look in the background of this 1963 family photo you will see a little Austin of that same vintage. I am the baby in his mothers arms in that photo. I have been a car spotter since not long after that photo was taken. I could take a walk back in time and describe what most of my neighbors drove; in fact if you were able to go to the right of the photo just outside the frame you would see in the distance a 1956 Buick convertible. It was replaced by a new car in 1969, a 1969 Laurentian in Crystal Turquoise.

Dad would never own a convertible, in fact any hardtop was an extravagance in his book. His brother would show up in his Oldsmobile 98 and say, Why dont you get a decent car you cheapskate! Dad bought 3-in-the-tree Biscaynes sans radio.

My grand father (Carl) had a lot of "little cars" back in the day...   Being from the era of "sit down and be quiet"   I never asked him why?

He had a Black Austin 4dr and a green Austin 4 dr with sunroof and a Karmen Ghia VW conv. and a Cortina, and a Mini wagon, and thats the last I remember

My dad had a Austin 4 door and the Austin convertible    probably pretty cheap cars in the day

I dam near froze in the conv.  (in the summer)  lol

here a photo of my Uncle on a horse  in the back ground is the convertible of my Dads

I'm going through my Mothers old photos   She passed Nov 12-13 (the day I was painting the chassis and putting rims on the CTC Ice truck :(

If my old memory still serves me, I believe all those old units opened from the top and were not rumble seats. Very inconvenient when trying to get the spare out.

Don't blame you. I had a 70 GTO convert for twelve or thirteen years. Loved it greatly. Very similar to your old 71 Lemans.

Just realized I lied on the first box. My avatar car is tied for oldest. I had a 62 Starfire convertible back in the mid eighties and had forgotten about it. It was a very cool car, but I'm not real keen on those Roto_Hydramatic transmissions. They seem to shift really slowly, compared to the mid-sixties and newer. My experience, anyway.

Never owned a rag top but i came so close to buying a 1965 Impala rag in the late 1980's. Factory blue exterior and interior, 283, Power glide on floor, P.S, P.B and all stock original. I am so glad that i crawled under that car because it was a cancerous mess with a very soft frame. The guy went to a lot of trouble to make the car above look perfect. I am glad i never fell for the deception.

My oldest was also a 62 Pontiac. Have had 4 in total. My 1st car was a 63 Falcon rag, then a 64 SS Impala and then a 66 Coronet.

Only one convertible. Still have it some 35+ years later. (Dad used to sell and repair Austin Healeys)
