66 Grande Parisienne with a grande price

Heres one on Alberta Kijiji.  The only thing out of the ordinary  is the fact that is seems to have a strato bench and column shift which I haven't seen much on these even though the ad states factory buckets (Maybe he has them separate?)  Not sure how solid the body is but overall it is probably worth about $1000.00 in my opinion, so good luck to him.

Hilarious, only worth a grand lol, price would be more if you owned it.

It would be more if it was an Impala SS, sadly.

Agreed, it will be a struggle to find a buyer anywhere near that price. Project cars these days need to be half that or less unless they are something pretty special.

I am in agreement with 66Grandeguy... I picked mine up last year and drove it home for less than half of that and then some and that included a ton of brake and suspension work (with paperwork for work done at a shop) as well as a bunch of spare parts. Can't see that big of a pricetag with that much 'love' needed.

Not every seller is desperate to sell, nor do they have to give their stuff away. Like I said, if you owned the car then you'd be whining how rare it is and how good of shape the parts are in, big bucks. Considering no one has seen the car in person, everyone thinks they are leading authority on the car. Everyone has a opinion.

Yes, and the opinions have been presented respectfully by individuals who have experience with the value of cars like this. It's all in the presentation!

I never meant to offend Indian but both sides need to be represented on every case. I know personally that I wish I had had some more accurate information on what some cars actual value was compared to what someone was asking for it when I was younger and looking into things. We aren't cutting the guy down, merely bringing to light a value that more accurately reflects current market so someone else doesn't get burned.

Whenever a vehicle is presented for sale  (i.g. Kijiji   E-Bay   Autotrader)   it becomes a subject of public opinion....

if its a Pontiac, on a Pontiac forum, its even more subject to opinion...biggrin

I think we all agree, that we can voice our opinion in a "nice" way...

I think we can say things like...  "interesting car"  not many of those around...   If I were buying it, I would try to get it for a lot less

or something like that....  confuse

I dunno, the fact the car got posted on Kijiji, got recognized and posted here by a member, is probably one of the best things that could have happened for the seller.

It certainly exposes it to some constructive opinions by the members, the likes of such from at least 4 good members that are the leading Canadian authority on the 66 Grande.

Not to mention, it gets the word out about the car in a tight, niche market, that might not otherwise see it. If your on CP, you've been noticed. If you elicit discussion, even better!

If not too soft underneath, I see this rolling project potentially at a $2500-$3000 price point.

Cheers,

Even looks familiar to me. I have to add I enjoy the above discussion about the value of various cars.

Look, I'm sorry if i came across kind of arrogant with my pronouncement.

I do have a bit of background though.  I bought my  66 Grande thats is now on the road that had a complete original 396 with AC, power windows shaded glass and headrests and a southern Alberta body for $2500.00 out of Brooks.

I was at an Auction  a couple of years ago where a similar car with similar equipment to the car in the ad went for $750.00.

I also bought a very nice dry parts car 66 Grande I.E. no engine or tranny but other wise pretty complete out of  Three Hills for $1000.00

I also bought a running, driving rusty 396 66 Parisienne for $3000.00 a couple of years ago.

I'm also trying to sell three 67 Grandes (one with AC, one with a complete unseized 396 and a dry body for $7000.00 to absolutely no interest.

So, givne waht I have experienced I wouldn't seriously try to sell this car for the asking price and I actually still think that given the repaint possibly hiding bad stuff,  the lack of many cool options or much of an engine that $1000.00 is in the ballpark.

I'd love to be proved wrong so I can ask more for mine but the cult of people that love these cars is kind of small. (but passionate!)

No worries Ken, there was nothing arrogant about your opening post, it's reality. Your idea of the value of a 66 GP (based on your experience as listed above) is unquestionably better than anyone on this board. I don't think we've seen anyone who is more dedicated to these cars than you.

For the record, I bought mine running/driving about 3 years ago for around 1/2 what this white one is listed for, and after I sold the rare (but no-working) GM accessory tach out of it the actual buying price was considerably less.

Thanks Carl, I still think after reading my initial post that I came across a bit grouchy at least which i try not to do here.

In my defense I have been corresponding with Revenue Canada whose latest bizarre communication with me actually requires me to send them money to pay taxes on income I haven't even earned yet, so my hostility to them might have leaked over a bit into this forum.  Not good.

Ken, don't beat yourself up.  You have one of the best sense of humors on this forum and besides that you know a whole lot about those big boats you drive.  When you are sort of grouchy you are at your best.

I do love the look of this car, but I won't deal with any more "out of province' inspections unless the price is seriously low. If it was in BC, and close to me, I'd consider 2-3 bills. Oh yeah, it would need the buckets and console to really give me the lumber, and I see bench and column, so no lumber......sorry.
Just one man's opinion.

Unless there's $5000 in the glove box it's over priced. Some here may not wish to agree and that's fine. It's a very rough parts car by the pics or a major project you would be upside down on in a hurry. It appears to be an abandoned project now?

I don't take it as offensive, none at all, I just find it hilarious people on this site slamming cars they've never seen in person, hilarious yup. The car obviously isn't worth 6,500, can get a driving car for that price, but the car is definitely worth more than a thousand bucks. Maybe that's all what Grande parisiennes are worth I guess, a thousand bucks. I'd take the car to crushed before giving it away.

Well I find that interesting.  Why not just give your opinion on a car good or bad but you don't need to bash the guy who has a different opinion than you.  There was a good debate on here 2 or 3 weeks ago between a couple of the members and they had completely opposite views.  Conversation went back and forth, no personal attacks, and when it was over they both said we will agree to disagree.  All was good between them but no personal jabs.  I don't find anything wrong with that but when I'm called whatever because I look at the value of cars I've never seen and make an opinion on them that really doesn't thrill me.  On the other hand it doesn't bother me at all when someone pipes up they think the opposite of this value of mine because of so and so.  That's educational not offensive.  I look at some of these projects and see how long they have been for sale and think the opinions stated probably aren't that far off.  I'm the first to admit I'm no expert but I have been a life long student of this business and try to continue to learn as much as I can.  Keep giving your opinions, I think it is a good thing on this forum even though I've badly derailed this thread.

Hey, I'm a opinionated guy (but I've toned it downblankstare). I actually left the site because I thought I was being stifled when it came to commenting on cars. I never would perpetrate a personal attack of a site member; BUT I do think that material items are just that, they are not flesh & blood. There are some people that think that a critique of a material item is a personal attack. If a person thinks that is wrong, that's THEIR opinion. Cool.

I will personally attack our beloved politicians though!
