It seems like this virus or whatever it is may finally be losing it's hold on me.

On those 348's, I wonder why H and A on the front of the heads?

I think Norm, forespeed, worked at Flint engine plant and he might be able to shed some light on these letter codes even though the W engines were Tonawanda built.

         H   is for 348   and  A is for Tri-Power

 .........HA was the designation code for 58 - 61 348 280hp w/triple two barrels and a turbo-glide

(tri-power was an American Pontiac designation.)........

HA was also used on a couple 327's and a 69 350 all w/4bbl and manual trans..

.......the 265 was a little different than later small blocks......notably the stange exhaust manifolds and if you notice no oil filter boss.

An oil filter could be had as an accessory over the counter back in '55 and '56, pretty sure

no 265's came with one - first seen on the 283.........this from memory so plz allow for some fogginess.......confuse

See the photo of a beautiful 1958 Laurentian Series, Parisienne convertible I took at Autofest in Oshawa, it has the Tri-Power badge on te front fender as can be seen in the photo. Would this badge fall into the category of "restorers privilege" in other words did a Canadian car not come with a Tri-Power badge?

My bet (and I don't bet) would be no, that is US only.

I could peek in the parts book but I'm quite sure on that one.

But that a stunning car. I absolutely love 58's, and black with red is that much better.

I have a few cans of engine paint on my shelf that are labeled CHEVROLET RED, its really orange to my eye but with more red pigment than what we see now a days. I believe this was the early colour.

..........have to agree with Carl on this one........don't recall ever seeing a tri-power emblem on a Canadian

Pontiac back in the day - but do remember a certain 60 Impala at Harvey's on Yonge St in Toronto that put that emblem on just

to raise eyebrows.........Ray I like your call there.......""restorers privilege"........that sums up a lot - doesn't it?

Now that I think about it that '58 Parisienne had a 4 speed floor shift too which was definitely not part of the equipment available in a '58 Canadian Poncho. Its a very nice car nonetheless "restorers privileges" and all.
