Nice! I'm guessing low production #s for that combination?

Required equipment on the GT option was any V8 and a 3 speed heavy duty manual was standard as were dual exhausts. This car was originally the heavy duty 3 speed and was changed to the 4 speed. The 400 would be on the rarer side as most GT's were 350 cars. Being an optional package the exact production numbers are elusive on these GT optioned cars.

A friend of mine has a 73 to 77 gen Elcamino 400 SS.  Only one I'd ever seen.  Then on an episode of Counting Cars I spotted one in the back ground  of Danny's friends showroom. The friends 400 was gutless so he upgraded to "built" 383 stroker. Kept the 400 so it can returned to stock.

The 400 was added to the El Camino option list in 1974 and used in '75 and '76. It was the top engine choice in '76. The 400 sbc was rated at 175 hp in those years, ironically so was the L48 350 in 73 and 74. That LeMans GT with the Pontiac 400 could have been rated between 200 and 230 HP depending on how it was ordered.
