i was trying to find a wiring harness for my Acadian so its a lot smoother to build. i spoke to american autowire and they said they don't have one for the acadian and the nova wouldn't work on this car. Do i have to make one from scratch (learn how to make a wiring harness) or is there a pre made one i can use?
I'm not so sure the Nova harness won't work. In 70 I think the only difference between the two was the emblems.
Farther back, as in 67 and older I would agree with them because of the difference in park lights, tail lights/backup lights, stuff like that. I hope the guys here who know the 70's better than I do will chime in but I am betting they will tell you it's the same.

Its the same for 68-72 the problem is the AMERICAN company Autowire (which is a great company) probably don't know what a Acadian is
Unless its trim "pretend" its a NOVA.... we have the same trouble trying to buy suspension for Pontiacs just ask for Chevy
Its a Nova built with Acadian trim for the Canadian market actually most were built in Michigan 71-72 for sure
i actually got a uncut wiring harness from bferguson which is in amazing condition. but i am missing the rear wiring harness for the taillights. so that is something i have to find but im trying to go with a wiring harness that i know is going to work rather than something that might work.
so im kinda stuck here now. the wiring harness that i have are all not able to be used. i would have to either build it from scratch or get a aftermarket one that would run me down at around 800 bucks. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions????
Are you saying your dash harness is not usable either? Is it totally wrong, not in good shape, or why can't you use it? In the past I have modified wiring harnesses to suit my needs (added gauges vs. idiot lights, etc.) It's time consuming but fun and very rewarding. Are you sure you can't order a new Nova harness? I see what I think would be the right dash harness on American Autowire's website.

i can order a new one off the american auto wires website just I'm just not sure if it would be smarter to keep the harness i have. so most of it is cut up but i got a replacement one. however the replacement one is also a bit cut up so I'm not sure where i should start regards to making sure i can use it. I was thinking to just use both harnesses and make it into one and add all the other wiring and the rear which I'm missing (source for the sockets) and try to figure out piece by piece or just get the american auto wire's harness. if i rebuild it would be finding a wiring harness diagram and following that.

Lots of guys will tell you just to buy a new one. I'm old school, I love repairing when I can. If you are handy with a soldering gun, heat shrink and a circuit tester, get at it! I happen to love that kind of stuff. You can buy all the correct factory style terminal and connectors online from places like this-
Thank you so much Carl. i actually took electrical engineering tech in college so i have a little bit of a wiring background. this would be good to test it.
I just checked the GM parts book and it says all 69-72 Novas and 69-71 Acadians use the same part number for the tail light harness so that opens it up a bit.

Here's the manual you need, it has the wiring diagrams in it. Not a bad price either. I have the same manual I'd sell for 25 bucks plus the mail but this one is closer to you.
I purchased one for my 70,they are identical to a Nova ,factory fit and correct colors and connections.Ordered the harness updated to HEI ,other than that its stock
If you are building a 6 cylinder car into an V8, get the V8 harness.
If you plan on modernizing your ride, get the "everything" kit. Including a new fuse block with extra PWR ports and slots to add modern convenience goodies.
WHILE YOU ARE AT IT... Dont stop there. Get the engine bay harness as well.
