Vin tag will only show year car is, the model and last five digits are the production numbers. Alot of times its on the metal cowl tag, a letter followed by two numbers, but tag is sometimes not stamped. Your build sheet, usually found hog ringed under rear seat, white strip of paper about one inch by eight inches folded in half, it has just letters and numbers no other identifying gm logos, that will list your trans

As far as I've ever seen, all 66 full size US model Pontiacs had V8's with TH400's behind them.

I can verify that with the parts book a bit later tonight though.

65 was the 1st. yr. for the turbo 400 in the US Pontiac so unless it's been swapped out that's what "should" be there.

Thats the conclusion I am lead to believe as well.I have asked them 3 times if it is a 3 speed or 2 speed. They send pictures and stuff I asked for but never answer teh question and no close up of the dash to see. Its in pretty good shape and as soon as one will answer teh phone I think I am gonna buy it. Have to fly out and drive her home or make arrangemants to ship it.
Then to look for a console and a pair of buckets to make it into a pseudo 2+2 or Custom Sport. Like my original one. Its as close as I can come I think for the money I want to spend.
Memories are always fuzzy anyway -especially as I get older.

Right Carl, the "slim Jim" went the way of the "DODO" bird after 64 it too was a 3spd but no T/converter  No 2spd that I know of "ever" in a F/size US Pontiac!!!!!

I just checked the parts book and it says exactly that, TH400 (3 speed auto) is the only auto trans choice in a 66 full size.
