1966 Grand Parisienne barn find


Just got a  1966 Grand Pariesienne.  All original 283/power glide.  Burgandy with red interior.  Black vynal with a supposed to be dealer installed sunroof.  It is the sliding, foldiong type with a crank mechanism.  It is a running, driving car with mint chrome except all teh badges are missing.  i need info as to wht rock and body moldings it would have come with and where to find some.

Shows about 35,000 on the speedometer and judging by the pedal wear looks like it could be real.  Where cann we get stuff like new seat skins, carpet and odds and ends?  The seats are good but a couple of seams are torn and need a woodgrain consloe door?  What would it be worth?

Had the 66 since about 83 and the 65 since 88.
Both still require a lot of work.

Congrats on your find and welcome to the forum.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be an unusual amount of '66 Grande Parisiennes out there?  Seems like in the for sale ads and also on this forum, that there are as many '66s as there are all of '67-'69s combined.  Anybody have the sales figures for all the years of GPs?

Welcome to CP. Lots of knowledge here so I'm sure members will answer all your questions.

I bought my carpeting kit and mats from autocarpetonline.com which I believe they get them from the states. Perfect fit and hassle-free to deal with them as well as to install. A hint... when you remove your seats and old carpeting it's your chance to change any wiring towards the trunk / rear area or take advantage to clean up the floor or deal with any other surprises you may find.

MC the production numbers I found on the 66 Grand Prix are 5,147 and Grand Prix sport deluxe are a lot higher 37,674

Hi, the production numbers are right for 66 Grande Hardtop at 5147 for 66.  For 67 it was only about 2500 so 66 seems to be the most plentiful (as well as the best looking!)  That being said a 283 powerglide car that needs a pile of work but that has a solid body and frame might go for $5000.00 unless it has some real rare options as well. Carpets are the same as 66 impala but no one make seat skins in that pattern so you'll have to get them done custom.

 I believe that the console cover is the same as the Caprice for that year but is otherwise only on the Grande Parisienne.  American Grande Prix's used real wood there as well as on the dash

If it was road ready (again the 283 PG cuts value)  it may fetch 15,000 in the market today.

The sun roof, unless it was really well done will actually hurt the value as it was never an option that year. As for moldings the side spears are easy to find as they were the same on all 66 hardtops but the Grande scripts are a bugger and aren't reproduced

I hope that helps and doesn't depress you. Still a very distinctive car.

66Grande_guy has your questions pretty much covered I'd say. I was going to tell you to check out when his car was the feature car of the month, but I can't find it. Am I dreaming, or has your car never been featured Ken? I was SURE it had been.

Anyway, to elaborate on the side trim, it is just a narrow band running all the way from behind the front wheel to the back bumper following that lower body line. If your car has fender skirts, there is no wheel opening trim on the back, but if it has no skirts on it, there should be a rear wheel opening moulding as well as a little moulding below that one at the front and back of the opening.

And by all means, please show us some pictures. You do NOT need to worry if it needs work, the majority of us here have project cars!

Pictures are coming. (Have to figure out import pictureshow to do it. Sorry about the spelling in first post) The car is running and driving.  Just brought home from the Gulf Islands here in BC.  Rust in the lower rear quarters but floors frame etc. are solid.  Has not been drive since 05.  it was licenced for 5 years prior to that after being in a barn for 20 years.  All bumpers, grill turn signals, head light bezels etc. are in mint shape.  70 mph down teh highway was rock sokid cruiser.  Just changed the rear shocks.  A couple of tears in interior seats but foam etc. super comfy. 

Have a few other Beaumonts adn not sure what to do with this one.  It was such a nice find had to bring it home.

That thing looks great!

I "expanded" your pictures for you.

Yes, it appears to be missing the lower trim as many of them seem to be.

What is the chrome knob hanging under the dash below the headlight switch?

The front seats have been redone, the rear looks original. If you take a close look at the pleats you can see the difference. I had my seats redone and you can't find anyone who will duplicate that pleat (or at least, duplicate it affordably)

Nice to see the pics. Looks like a pretty solid straight car with a nice interior for the most part.  Engine bay pics would be good too and a clear shot of the firewall tag would allow us to figure the production date.   I see it has a remote drivers mirror but the option list looks pretty short otherwise

Be good also to see how well installed the sunroof was and what is under the vinyl.  Usually a lot of rust unfortunately.

 

That mid door side trim was not factory.  The lower trim shouldn't be too hard to find but somebody's going to have to get a 3D printer and make some new ones out of some good ones.  I have never seen these on Ebay or at a swap meet and they are really fragile.  There are hobbyists out here that collect those kind of things and that what may happened to yours. 

Definately worth bringing back. Would make a lovely boulevard cruiser.

I spend a lot of time perusing classifieds online and do plenty of chasing cars and leads. I have never once found a '66 Grand Parisienne, or Grand Prix.
Canadian Poncho has brought more of them out of hiding than anywhere and everywhere!

I agree.  Once in a while one surfaces in western canada, usually pretty rough.  I haven't seen one show up in the east for a long time.  I think there are a few really nice ones stashed away in garages or in well heeled collectors/hoarders stashes but it seem that the days of rundown but basically good cars is gone out that way.

I've been keeping an eye out for good parts 66 Grandes ever since I've been on this forum and I've found exactly one.  I have, weirdly enough, found three 67 Grandes which are quite a bit rarer.

This one is about as good a survivor as you will see these days, I think.

I live in the Coquitlam area.  Starting to do some odds and ends on it.  The chrome knob under dash is for a hood release, someone removed the latch mechanism.  I don't know if it was for security or why so I need that piece.  Just aquired a complete Pariesienne dash for the radio, turns out I already had the correct radio so I now have an extra complete dash.  Did a quick splash around the engine to check for leaks.
