Need help on '61 parisienne VIN + Color?

Hello!

I'm having trouble locating the correct paint code for this car. There's no original paint to find anywhere on the car, since it's been resprayed two or three times over the years.

As you can see in the picture, the paint code is "751", and trim "918". There is nothing on the internet related to that paint code. You can also see that the car is manufactured in Antwerpen, Belgium, so maybe they had their own codes?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, and of course if someone can decode the VIN (or redirect me to someone who could do it), that would be of great help also.

A pic of the car, a work in progress. The engine (261) works OK, brakes are being done ATM, then we'll see if it passes MOT.

Going to be tough to find the paint code as my Canadian swatches only show letters for the codes - not numbers.

The Canadian book of model numbers for 1961 shows 7739 = Parisienne 6 cyl ( 261 cu. in. ) 4 door hardtop made in Oshawa. So this matches your picture.

Good luck with it.

Can you fill us in on more of the story behind your car?

Now that's downright interesting.......

A Canadian Pontiac.....named after a city in France....assembled in Belgium.....I take it you are in the UK?

I'm pretty sure that 1st gen (67-69) Firebirds were also assembled at GM's plant in Belgium...

There's another fella on the board here....from the UK....with a 64 Parisienne convert.....wonder if it was assembled in Belgium?

The UK RHD cars were built in Oshawa, mine included. As far as I know kits were never sent for assembly in the UK, but they were in various European mainland countries including Belgium.

I'd say you SHOULD be able to find some original paint on your 61......

The odds are pretty good that if you pull up the carpet,...remove the rear door panels....look under door or trunk weather stripping, you will find some factory paint....

The cowl/firewall was prolly body color and would be the first place I'd be scrutinizing...

Pull one of the door hinges....there's TONS of places to check....

The interior trim was decodable with the Canadian specs, as was also the rest of the VIN, thanks for that. So what's the main differences between the Sport sedan, and the normal one, besides from the C-pillar which is thicker?

I'm actually in Finland (google maps is your friend ;) ) and i'm not so familiar with the history of the car, but it's been in the family (my dad & uncle) in the 80's, back then it was already once rescued from just sitting and rotting away (see pic). Then maybe in the middle 90's it was sold to a 'family friend' and again, maybe 20 years just rotting outside. My dad got it back for his 50th birthday in 2010, since then it has been rusting and rotting away on their yard until last autumn, when we decided to see if it could be repaired to a working condition. I will have to ask my dad about more details, because i'm also very interested in the part how he managed to find one of these here in Finland, as they are rare all over the world.

I've been searching a lot for a couple of days, and it just seems that GM Continental Antwerpen used their own color codes for the cars, and "751" just isn't anywhere to be found. As the car has no carpet to look underneath, and is 100% resprayed several times, it will be really difficult to find any original color, but i will try to check next time i'm at the garage.

Btw. Front brakes are now fully working with new cylinders+hoses and a new master cylinder, rear brakes will be done later this week. biggrin The white paint is just primer that has been sitting there for a good 25 years or so, luckily it has kept the bodywork in relatively good shape.

My dad ordered a 64 Parisienne Sports sedan (4dr hardtop) in Nove 63....and as I recall....the upholstery was upgraded from the 4dr sedan......and I believe the whole roof was completely different.....

As far as finding original paint.......you may want to carefully remove the trim tag rivets...(they can be re-installed)...and underneath is where you should find original paint color....

There are TONS of places to look at that would NOT have gotten paint on them from a respray.....and unless the body was dipped prior to repaint.....there s/b lots of evidence of original color left......I'd bet it was Ermine White....and that's what confusing you....

Well, it definitely wasn't Ermine White, but what is it then?

It's not 100% black, maybe very very dark grey, and definitely Metallic. Any thoughts?

 I have a 64 swatch sheet.

Top colours should be in the manual.
