427 Strato-Chief's at Sinclair Pontiac-Buick London in 1967

This ad appeared in The London Free Press in May of 1967. A base model Strato-Chief with the 427/385hp combo, a 4 speed posi, HD suspension, 15" red line wide ovals, and front disc brakes. I'll take 10 please! Oh the memories!

Awesome Colesy! I do know Sinclair also had more than one (I've heard 3) 427 4 speed 68 Strato Chief's as well. I used to work with Doug Crellin who was a salesman at Sinclair back then. He told me they bought them to compete against the 427 Biscayne's Central Chev ran at St.Thomas. Doug actually owned one of those 3 Strato Chief's and showed me a photo of it. My dad bought his 69 Strato Chief at Sinclair. It was a company demonstrator. I grew up about a mile and a half from Sinclair (and Eastown Chev, and Rankin Ford...)

The car in the ad looks like a 2dr hdtp.  Were the cars they're speaking of 2dr's or 4dr's.  Hdtp's or sedans?

Cool. Yes, the hi-performance scene at both LMP and Sinclair was very strong back then. I'll be posting more Canadian Pontiac stuff on the facebook site so stay tuned. https://www.facebook.com/colesysplace

The car in the ad is a 2-door sedan, but the watermark is fairly large and stark so it makes it difficult to see.  I had to magnify the ad to see if it was a sedan or not.

If a little constructive criticism is OK, a smaller toned-down watermark in a less prominent location would improve the viewability (is that a word?) of the ad yet still secure your "ownership" of the image.  Just my 2¢, nothing more.

Oh yeah, forgot to say thanks for posting!  That ad is really cool... Would love to find one of these beasts today.

Thanks Guys; The photo in the ad is just standard Pontiac dealer "clip art". Yes it is a Strato Chief 2 door sedan but not an actual photo of one of the 427 cars. Here are some more ads from "Performance Cars" at Bay & Davenport, Toronto in February 1969.

Wow! I should have thought of that! Take some old image, scan it, print a big FROM DAVE on it, obscuring a significant part of the image, post it on here, and everyone (except, apparently, Mark) will say "wow is that great" and "thank you so much" and I can revel in the accolades, when all I have done is copy some old thing ... in fact, I think I should go modify all of the good old stuff I have scanned and put up here for anyone to enjoy, and put a big FROM DAVE on it, eh? After all, I "OWN" it, right?

Dave

Hey Todd, a quick check on Google and I found this 9 year old post from you biggrin

"A fellow I worked with used to work for Sinclair Pontiac in London Ontario in the late 60's. He recounted to me that back in 68 Sinclair ordered 7 or 8 427/4speed bench seat Strato Chief's(these were the lightweight Pontiac Sedan) in response to Central Chev's 427 Biscaynes they were ordering and racing at St.Thomas. Not sure if they were 425hp cars. He showed me a picture of one of them that he bought back then (no longer owns). Two questions: Could these be COPO cars? That seems like an awful lot of cars to order unless GM of Canada specified a minimum order. Does anyone know any more about these cars? Any survivors? I'd love to see one of these monsters.
Also, has anyone ever heard of a 427/4speed 69 Strato Chief?
Todd"

I was hoping to find 68 427 pic,

Found this  blast from the past

RS1968 PONT-1.jpg

The next ride of the month, a heart shot. Being myself great Pontiac amateur "FULL SIZE", I wanted to introduce you to the next jewel. CEST the rumor, urban legend, the "Yeah, I know a guy that." the "yeah I know where is sleeping in a barn." And my friend Renaud St Pierre de Loretteville the found. CEST a Pontiac Strato Chief 1968, two-door sedan, with engine 427pc! In 1968 in the Pontiac Full Size Canadians series, consisted of La GRANDE PARISIENNE, La PARISIENNE 2 + 2 (sport), La PARISIENNE, the LAURENTIAN, and the STRATO CHIEF. The GRANDE PARISIENNE is the most luxurious. In the door there were six cylinder in-line 250PC 155hp, 210hp (carburetor two-body) 8.75 to 1 compression 327PC, 327PC @crank (carburetor four body) 10 to 1 compression, 325hp 396PC and finally 427PC 385HP all two, compression 10.25 to 1. first owner bought the car in St. GEORGE's JW MORIN and Board kept for 35 years. The second owner, 5 years. The car only 57000 m. Also note that this Pontiac has dimmenses disc brakes, dune oversized flybar, differential dun of 3.08 and dune transmission 3 speed TURBO 400. It weighs 4136 lbs. The rims are those of GTO or lemans from the same era. According to the inscriptions of the engine compartment, it sagirait of the 11th unit out of the line of manufacture of OSHAWA, Ontario. Renaud does not roll the Pontiac on the dacceleration track, as he does for his Chevelle Malibu 1979. However, can be accept - t - it an invitation to the "SPECIAL RETRO de Pont-Rouge.

Interesting. Just goes to show you how one's memory fades. I mentioned in the old post 7 or 8 Strato's. Hmmm. I guess the only way to know for sure is for me to call Doug.
