 To my memory, the term "post" has only seemed to come into common use over past 15 years or so.  I recall when I first got into this hobby I never heard that term.  I did often hear "hardtop" to refer to any car that had a roof, but not "post" so much.


 Some guy in Arkansas thought up the term while looking at a 'possum on his backyard fence.wink

Hi . . . some questions:

From 1964-65, the Beaumont was a sub-series of the Acadian?

For 1966, the Sports Option for the Beaumont Custom gave it some fender louvers and other trim plus a standard 396/360 with no other engine option? And never an "SS" hood?

For 1967, the Sports Option for the Beaumont Custom gave it some rear fender louvers and other trim plus standard 396/350 with no other engine option? And never an "SS" hood?

And the SD side stripes were an option? Or standard? (I think it may be the former.) So where did the SD come from if it was a Custom and not a Deluxe?

For 1968, it seems there was now a standard 396/325 with optional 396/350. "SS" hood finally appeared. Side stripes now standard.

But here's where it really gets confusing for me - 1969:

Seems like the performance model was relegated as a package again, now for the Beaumont Deluxe sport coupe and thin pillar coupe. New striping was an easy visual cue, and the engines stayed the same.

But I thought they built a convertible SD 396 in 1969? I guess that's not true?

Anyway, was curious how I did - thanks!

If nobody else helps you on this I can help with most of it tonight. There is a lot to say about the SD package for each year, it's actually quite detailed and in some cases unique.

In '66, the SD was an option and not a separate model. The SD option could be ordered with any engine - 6 cylinder through to 396.
The Sport Deluxe option got you bucket seats, floor console, interior badging, and external trim.

As Carl says, the SD thing is convoluted. It was a separate model, then an option, then a separate model (mid-year change in December 1966) and back to being an option in 1969. There were some years (68 & 69 ??) when all SD's were 396's.

Ugh, this isn't going as easily as I had hoped. Certainly it doesn't seem the brochures are reliable, but admittedly there were some vague things written within.

Nope, it's very confusing.

And to make you more confused, the hood were flat until December 66 when the SD became a model, not an option. At that point they were all big blocks from then on.

So you're suggesting that the SS hood *was* installed at some point starting in 1966?

I could have sworn I have seen a car like that but I just guessed at this point that it was installed by the owner.

Yes, starting when the SD became a model, Dec 66, the SS hood became standard.

That's December '66, on 1967 models.

No BB hoods from the factory on '66's to my knowledge.

This ain't easy even for Canucks!

BTW, are there any magazines in Canada that may have featured stock Canadian muscle? I am afraid it may be the only way for me to obtain images for the book because GM wants WAY too much money for the rights.

I don't know if anybody else has this info but this is what I got from GM when I was looking for my original car, I don't see any copy right on it so here it is, I also have 11 pages for the regular Beaumont but I'm having a heck of a time with the jpeg files, pdf is what I like to work with so if anyone wants a copy pm me with your email and I will send you a copy.

So the '67 was available with two states of tune - cool, as the brochure shows only the higher of the two. So would it be correct to characterize the '67 as having the 396/350 as the only engine available on the Custom with the Sport Option until the Sport Deluxe came into being, which superseded the former and added a new standard engine?

And I reckon the only SD was the SD 396, right?

Since these changes happened in the middle of the model year 1967, I can only guess that the 1966 was just the Custom with the Sports Option and the 396/360.

Ok, so this is how I see it and I welcome correction if I get it wrong!

64-65 SD's were their own model number.

66 SD always started it's life as a Custom, same model number as a Custom. A51 Sport Option got you an SD and engines available on SD were 6 cyl, 283, 327 and 396 in 360 horse only. There were no SS hoods installed on any 66 Beaumont at the factory.

67 SD when it was first introduced had the same criteria as the 66 listed above except the 396 was available in 325 or 350 horse. There were no SS hoods installed on these cars. Approximately the start of December, SD became it's own model and from that point on for all model year Beaumonts, the only available engine was a 396, still with 2 horsepower choices. Along with this change, the SS hood became standard on SD's. 67's were available with a stripe (I believe the correct number is 117 stripe cars came off the assembly line?) and when the stripe was ordered, no "Sport Deluxe" emblems were installed on the quarter panel. Oh, and after the Dec changeover, an SD could be bought with a bench seat which was not possible prior to the model change.

I believe what you say above for 68 SD to be all true, 2 horsepowers (NO solid lifter engines were ever installed at the factory in any year Beaumont) SS hood, SD stripes on all cars.

69 I am not certain on but I believe it was back to an option, all would have had SS hoods, SD stripes, 2 engine choices. No documented convertibles as far as I've seen, but yes to the pillar coupes.

How did I do guys???

So you are saying that in 1966, the Sport Option turns it into a Sport Deluxe?

And that it was like earlier (1964-65) Chevelle SSs in that it was more of a sporty package available with a host of engines?

And in 1967, it started out the same way (albeit with two available 396s) but in December 1966 the Sports Option became an official model designated SD 396?

Aside of someone having issues with your "facts," this is what you're saying, right?

 From what I read sounds pretty well bang on for the 66 67, that's the ones I know best.
