Alternator identification

Did I mention I might have a few (thousand) questions? I'm at step 2- "gathering information & building knowledge" stage of the restoration process. (step 1 was acquiring the car- yay!) I will be carefully archiving everything I learn here so that I can properly direct the resto when the time is right- so thanks for your support! The car is one of very few 1967 2+2 convertibles produced with factory 427 and 4 speed. Might be the only one known to still exist??

This topic is my alternator. Mine reads: 1832484  37A  7D26  12V - NEG.  So it seems to be a 37 amp unit, date code-calendar year is 7 (1967?), 4th month, 26th day. That would make sense for my car with production date May 24 1967. My confusion has to do with the part number. Everything I see in "Chevrolet By The Numbers 1965-69" show alternator parts numbers beginning 110... or 111...  What's up with part number 1832484?

I'd guess the alternator was replaced at sometime with a rebuilt unit that just happens to have a date code close to what it should be.   What was the build date of the car? (from Elroy's GM documentation)   You're right about the date code on the alternator, it was put together April 26 1967.
