Seeing the oil cap on the 1959 reminds me that Pontiac 1958-1962 261's had it in the middle of the valve cover and 235 Chevy's had it on the front. Were the early 1955-57 261's like that also??

 Randy, both the Pontiac 261 and the Chevrolet 235 had the oil cap in the middle of the valve cover, as of 1959 because of the lower and flatter hoods. The cap would hit the hood if at the front of the valve cover. All the 55 56 57 Chevy's and Pontiac's had the cap at the front, unless someone changed the motor at some point. Cheers. George
