496 on the Engine Dyno

They could not get the A/F ratio to not be too lean with the Demon, so we put on an 850 cfm AED carb they had, that they said runs real good ... and the fun began:

My video camera malfunctioned, the second pull was a bit stronger on the high end (gave me goosebumps), but son Andy got this first pull on his phone (feel free to turn up the volume - the booth's glass door was shut):

Results:

500 ft-lbs torque from 3000 to 5500 rpm
550 ft-lbs torque from 4000 to 5000 rpm
545 horsepower at 6200 rpm

Not the 600 I was hoping for but it still should move down the road right smartly. biggrin

We had to hammer on the firewall some more to get the mock block to fit with the Cal Custom valve covers (I have 2 sets), previous fitting was with not-as-tall stock VC's and thankfully it occurred to me to try them before actual motor installation - which will be done tomorrow.

Comp Cams hydraulic roller cam:

·        Duration @ .050'': Intake - 243, Exhaust - 257

·        Valve Lift: Intake - .570, Exhaust - .554

·        Lobe Sep. Angle: 107° (very rough idle but sounds nasty)

Yes, Brodix 270cc oval port heads

Engine builder at the dyno shop says that cam is too much for those heads with my dual-plane intake

but I feel that fat mid-range torque from heads/intake, combined with top-end pull from big cam, is good ...

That engine sounds great.
The horsepower is nice but wait until you feel the 550 ft lbs of torque.
It's going to be fun.
