X-frame - Olds vs Pontaic

Found this interesting, the Olds had an x-frame, but also has side rails.   Unlike the Pontaic/Chev, which had no side rails.

Seems the Olds offered more side impact protection.

Guess its just an example of the safety concerns back then.  ie. no concern smile

Here's one from a 1959 Olds.  Olds clearly had a different floor pan than the Chevs and Canadian Pontiacs.

Seems that Olds got the best of both worlds - torsional strength from the X-frame, yet side impact strength of the perimeter frame.

Just thought this was interesting.

But I'm easily amused. biggrin

Umm I was wondering about doing something like that to add strength to the X frame on high Hp cars??
