On the front of the passenger side axle tube. You may have to wire brush it real hard to find it. Copy down everything you can find, and part of that will bet the 2 digit letter code needed. If you post that here, I can help.

I thought I seen some rpo codes on the drivers side firewall? Also on a piece of paper inside the back seat? My guess the axle is open With a 2.73 Since I have a powerful glide Thinking 3.40ish with a posi Or Detroit locker might make the car feel a little more sporty? Any inputs?

I don't think I've ever seen axle codes on the firewall. I think that typically, stuff written there involved changes required to the body to install an option, but I'm not positive.

If you can find the paper in the seat, it may be on there but I think it would be on there only if it has an optional axle ratio. Is it a 10 bolt or 12? You are right, 2.73 is super common in the 12 bolt cars. 283 car?

Would your documentation from George at  GM  not show whether it was equipped with Positive traction (originally)?

Tomorrow will be warm

go to storage

fire it up     pull outside

Hold brake and push gas pedal to floor    release brake quickly

If only one tire spins...

It may not be a Posi

If you can't see any numbers on the tube. Since you've got the rear end off the ground, chalk the bottom of the tire on the inside, and make a mark on the bottom of the driveshaft. Turn the tire one complete revolution snd count how many times the driveshaft turns. 2 1/2 turns = 2:56. Just over 3 turns = 3:08. You het the idea!
