April 2016 Feature Car

This month we are featuring another great 1969 Pontiac. While March's Pontiac is one that would rarely have been seen back in the day, our April car is a model that was pretty much the bread and butter for Pontiac in 1969. Claude Monast's Laurentian is a perfect example of the car a typical family would own back then (that is if mom didn't demand a four door). As a child who spent most of his formative years being transported to and fro in a '69 Pontiac I can attest that these cars were pretty much bulletproof. I can only recall one instance we were left stranded in the 12 years my parents owned the car. It's also safe to say that Claude's Laurentian, while not so uncommon back in 1969, is a rare sight today especially in such great condition. Let's find out more about this great car from Claude:

I found this 1969 Pontiac Laurentian listed on Kijiji on Father’s day of 2015.  The original owner was selling it.  It had roughly 95,000 miles on it and he had kept track of every oil change since new including date and mileage of each one.  It was obvious that it was well taken care of but the brakes were seized and the exhaust was rusted out.  It also needed new plugs and wires and few other things but I had it up and running in no time.

The car had original paint along with the original tag from Milton Motor Sales.  The paint was faded and scratched in a few places so it was stripped down to bare metal and repainted.

The seats were refinished and some interior was replaced including the parcel shelf, speakers and arm rests.  I kept the 8 track player to keep it period correct.

The old bias ply tires had to go so I decided to upgrade the 14” wheels and hubcaps to 18” Foose Legends.  I realize this probably offends some of the purists and I was hesitant on doing it but the wheels gave it just the right amount of attitude in my eyes.  I also kept the original wheels and hubcaps in case I change my mind further down the road.

This summer I need to repaint the engine and clean up the engine bay.  I look forward to taking it to the 2016 Pontiac Nationals.

Claude, beautiful car and great memories. I wish you lots of enjoyment in the years to come.

Your car brings back great memories as the seat pattern and headrests look identical to my dad's 71 Bel-Air. Great you kept the 8-track player; you can use an 8-track adaptor and in it put a cassette adapter & play MP3s from your phone, MP3 player, etc like my friend does with his 69 Bonneville.

Perhaps I'm a bit biased about the B-bodies but I love it! enjoy your car.

That is one cool car!

What I find extra appealing is that interior. There's just something about all that blue. SO much nicer than the boring interiors in the new cars that are pretty much all the same colour...

April is going to be a good month!

Todd, you are right about them being everywhere back in the day. 47 years later it is rare to find a good one but this month's feature car is a beauty. In my home town there was one with the same colours, stock except for fresh 15x8 Corvette Rally Wheels back around 1980. I also remember 2 brand new 1969 Laurentians several doors down from us on either side, plus many more Laurentians and Parisiennes back in the late 1960s. A good friend's grandfther owned a 69 Laurentian coupe that was absolutely spotless. Too bad he passed away in the mid-1970s; the car was sunsequently sold cheap and used up as a daily driver until it entered the smashup derby at the Ancaster Fair. Come to think of it, I saw numerous 69 Pontiacs at the various derbies. Like I said, once common, now decidely uncommon. Now where's that Like button? I need to press it a few times smile

Claude, i am not going to judge on the after market wheels you put on, even thought that sweet heart looks better with the stock wheels. All i am going to say is that i love your 69. Cheers. George

Nice original rig, I'm not usually big on chrome aftermarket wheels, but those look pretty good.

Very nice car. They were the most reliable cars built in the 60's and glad to see this one kept mostly original.

Congrats and welcome to the club. Such a nice example this 69 is, and how often do you ever see one? Map light as well, interesting.

I kind of like the wheels. Adds a modern look to the car, stance is right too. Really, the 69 base wheel discs are probably the blandest GM ever made anyway, so bye bye to em'.

Now throw a nice pair of duals and a rear bar on it, and drive her anywhere. Cheers!
